Ok- we now have seen two games and seen how Baylor is after another game against a solid SMU….I am solidly in the camp that this team absolutely can be better than anything we have seen since 2019.
My 3 “fan” instant observations:
1. I can completely understand why JA is QB #1. Can’t fault his performance and feel good about him when he is in the game. 24/28 for 251 and 3 TDs is great to see. I do believe he will put us in position to win games.
2. Defense looked awesome tonight. Seeing what Baylor did today, I would say the defense is pretty solid and tackling was better regardless of opponent. Although BS was bad, holding anyone to 68 yards is impressive.
3. The pause—I predicted a 41-7 win. Nothing excessive. Statistics say otherwise, but we didn’t overwhelm BS like I thought we would or could from an explosive passing attack. Again, we were expecting to beat them in yards and JA was 24/28- so I know this sounds like knit picking- but the offense against solid defenses is still a pause for me. Was I expecting too much here?

I have no clue where we are as of now. We won’t know until Oklahoma.

I don't think we're ready for Oklahoma yet.

Very true, but I felt like some more explosive passing plays downfield against BS were in play. We had a 30 and a 23 yard gain, but my recollection was those were more catch and runs.

I absolutely do not think we will lose- but I don’t believe that tonight’s game makes me feel like we will curb stomp a pretty decent S AL team. I think it will be closer than we all would like- something like 38-17 or something like that where we add a score late to pull away.
I think we are capable of beating Oklahoma or A&M but not if we play like we did tonight on offense….overall.

Joker needs to stay on them.

So far for me I don’t hold my breath when JA is the qb and I feel good about him. The O-line has been solid. Defensively I like everything I saw tonight with the caveat of I still worry about our secondary against better offenses. The WR and the RB room may be as deep as I can ever remember as an Auburn fan.

The first series we had left a WR wide open for a TD.
On defense, we were better than them upfront, but the back end still needs work. Atkinson and Smith stood out.
Simmons has not locked up the punt returner position IMO. Who is the next punt returner?
The offensive line still needs work especially in pass pro.
We are better than Ball State.
We are a work in progress.

We had zero pass plays completed downfield unless you count the Singleton Jet Sweep motion TD pass and catch. The lack of downfield passing is concerning, especially against Ball State.

I was impressed with the improvement on defense between games 1 and 2. Sylvester Smith played very well. He is a go getter.

Pass protection and not being willing or able to use the middle of the field in the passing game were concerns yesterday. Felt a lot like a late stage Gus offense

We took a step forward without a let down. Considering the fact that two Captains were not on the field.
These are learning games. Correct what was wrong and grow. We grew.
We will grow more in preparation for chocklahoma.
On the other hand….Bama beat up the smallest kid on the block and considered themselves world beaters.

A few of our players got some stats against a hapless team. Game isnt rewarding when our opponent is that bad.

Arnold hangs onto the ball too long and is too quick to scramble. Familiar tune. Running game looks reasonably solid and the line - while far from perfect - is noticeably improved. Defensively, we're going to get burned in the secondary a lot this year, but overall, we adjust well and the defensive line looks strong, There's a lot of young talent and depth there so I'm confident in that D keeping us in games.
Punt returns need work and the kicking situation is a bit worrisome, but overall, I'm more encouraged at this team's prospects than I started the season being.

I mean, we played like garbage and slept walk through it for the most part. I don’t believe that’s what our offense is meant to look like going forward.
We could have lined up and ran the ball on them for 700+ yards and won 70-3.
I think the drive that put us up 35-3 was what Hugh wants the offense to look like. Took what the defense handed us for free and executed it to near perfection.

I am not sure our routes are too long with sufficient outlets when coverage breaks. Remember seeing that on a few

I feel really good through 2 games however I do feel like we’re missing a “special RB. Our guys are serviceable obviously but I don’t think we have a Tre Mason / Hunter type back that can take a game over.
