Spinoff: Best SEC wide receiver since 2000

No bias but Devonta Smith had the greatest career of any player I’ve seen. That goes for awards and stats. Catching the NC winning td as a freshman was good enough for anyone but he definitely topped it.

Had an excellent college career, no doubt, and he's one of the top #2 wideouts in the NFL.

I would argue that there has never been a WR in the history of college football who had a better career than DeVonta Smith.

Including his sugar bowl stats, which weren't included back in 2001, he had:
13 games, 108 receptions, 1979 yards (152 ypg), 9 TDs. In an era where teams just didn't put up passing yards like they do now, what he did was silly. Believe he still holds the ypg record in the SEC. He'd still hold the total yardage record if they counted bowl stats back then.
Reed only played 2 years at WR in his college career. Was a running back, Saban switched him to WR his sophomore year. In 2 years, with bowl stats and only an 11 game regular season, he had 3,202 receiving yards in 35 games. (not counting Reeds 134 yards he had his freshman year when he wasn't a WR, also was in 1999 outside the context of this thread) Devonta Smith had 3965 yards in 54 games for comparison.

Yeah you can't argue against Smith as far as careers go but also it's important to note that he played 4 years in college which is rare for a stud receiver. Ja'Marr Chase only played 2 years of college ball and really wasn't used a whole lot as a true freshman. Julio and Chase were far more impressive to watch than DeVonta IMO.
