Auburn can recognize anything they want. The truth is that nobody else recognizes these championships belonging to Auburn.

Gus coached at Auburn in 2017 and later coached at UCF so, ispo facto, Auburn is the real 2017 national champion.

I think if you go undefeated you can claim it with a semi-straight face. Don't expect people to acknowledge it, but look, you did what you could do.
I think it's a better argument if you play a meaningful schedule, etc. None of us recognize UCF as a true champion, but I'm also not outraged by them putting it on their press materials.
