Tech hasn’t been able to recover from losing Mike Leach. Let’s see if they can take over the Big 12 conference, bc they can at least outspend their conference mates.

$3.5 million for a kid that’s yet to play his junior year of high school.

Big 12 doesn't have a blue blood in it anymore so it's a crapshoot for who will win it and get an automatic playoff bid. Smart by Texas Tech.

Totally insane, but Texas tech has a window and they’re trying to capitalize on it. The strategy won’t win them national titles but it will win the conference and at least get them to a playoff.

Impossible to turn down $3.5m at that age

It totally worked out for Texas AM

For a school like Texas Tech that method is probably their best shot. A&M historically hasn't been some powerhouse, but you can try to build it in a more "standard" way for larger programs and you have a chance.
If I'm a Big12 school I see a comparatively easy path to the playoff vs what an SEC school has to do, and a power vacuum that I could fill. Why not try it?

Aggy was going against a loaded SEC. Texas Tech is in a wide open big 12 and has a chance to take control.
I’m not saying it’s sustainable, I’m only saying I understand their approach considering the situation.

A ton of people on this message board dont understand the die hard love for Texas tech from their fans and oil money. It's not that theyre that much more wealthy than any other college's biggest donors. Its just that they care about nothing but that shite. The yellow wood and apple guy at Auburn would love if Auburn were good. They arent willing to sink what the oil guys in West Texas will.

Hell, they’ve never finished ranked in the top 10 in school history

In my lifetime, I’ve never seen Tech field an above average defense, you think they can finally do it?

It's two guys. Cody Campbell and John Sellers. They played at Texas Tech under Mike Leach. They were partners in Double Eagle which they sold for several billion. They have other assets worth several billion apiece.
It's like saying Oregon has a lot of alums who are die hard fans and they have a lot of investment income. Maybe? But it's Phil Knight. That's who drives Oregon's NIL success.
Without those two guys Texas Tech is not able to do what they're doing right now.
I don't know why someone would say it's not sustainable. The payroll for Texas Tech is around $50 million per year right now in NIL funds. It would take 20 years at that rate to reach $1 billion. Now sure, numbers will change all over the place, but the fact is these guys can afford to pay out this kind of money for a long time.

Hey. 3 mill for a QB seems around the norm now for top tier QBs.

Yep, if I am hiding Dad I tell him to take the money and invest almost all of the post-,tax income. Put it in an index fund and he will never have to save another dime

They keep getting good defenders like that instead of offensive tackles and they'll be in playoffs soon, the problem was never their offense.
They've always sucked on defense
