No doubt that we are all ready for the season to start but the first games start in only 25 days. It just seems much more quiet than usual at this time of year. Or is it just me?

When you make college, a pro sport you do lose some of the intrigue. Not a lot wondering what you have. Just go look at what your qb did at north east state last year!

NIL has brought down a lot of passion/enthusiasm.

All the A&M fans are resigned to being average. The Texas fans have nobody to give crap to. Alabama sucked last year, and the offseason has been relatively quiet. It will spin up again soon

Tennessee fans aren’t quite as optimistic as most offseasons

It seems like folks have largely lost interest in College Football, due in large part to free agency and the highest bidder getting most of the talent. I know for a certainty I am not as interested as I have been in the past.

We just need a well time FOIA request to Freeze’s phone records to get the party started.

Just wait for the ratings drop. Because it's coming.

I wonder what FOX/ESPN next move will be when they see needle go back the other way. They've ruined this game, so in a sad way, all things are being made right.

Well, when you know Bama will be back on top again, all is calm.

Agree, but to clarify, if college football is now a pro sport, it is the minor leagues.

This time of year is normally when we are discussing the following:

Recruiting battles: No reason to follow this if half the commits won't sign and the other half will transfer after a year on campus.

Starting QB depth chart battles: The SEC hasn't had a legitimate QB competition in at least 2 years. If your QB room doesn't have an obvious starter, you now pay 2 million to get one from a small school.

Cheating scandals: There is no such thing as cheating when it's anarchy.

I have followed Alabama football religiously for 30 years as a fan and alum and I couldn't name more than 10 players on the roster right now. I'll probably still watch most games but I don't keep up with depth charts, recruiting, or player development. It's too exhausting and pointless.

Most people assume pay for play is what ruined it. But you are right that its not that players get paid. It's the completely unregulated nature of it with no salary cap, draft, free agency restrictions, etc. No pro sport could survive being run the way college football exists today and CFB won't either if they don't fix it.

Agreed. It's hard to even figure out a team that is even vying for the offseason championship.

For Bama and LSU fans:
vying
[vahy-ing]
adjective
competing; contending.

The sport is being dismembered before our eyes, thus much of the enthusiasm has been lost. It's not even debatable.

College Baseball did great this past year. There's a lesson in this somewhere.

If you listen real closely you can hear the sound of a bang noise and It’s just BK practicing slamming his fist against the desk for after the Clemson game.

I dunno about most quiet. But it’s the most wide open the SEC has been in a decade. So folks are just waiting to see how it will play out.

I agree. I think for me personally all the portal and NIL crap has just made me a little less interested/excited in general.

I'd also say that in terms of Texas there's not really that much intrigue; we know who the starting QB will be and I'm just not interested in reading articles about how the offense will be this or that. Just care about seeing it on the field.

Also training camp isn't in full swing yet either.

Lastly it seems like I'm running my 13 year old to camps and softball events all summer so I don't have time to read much anyway!

He's right, you know.

The portal has also upended rosters so much that no one knows whether to expect to be good or bad anymore.
