So currently as we sit 28 spots below Sac State in recruiting rankings while standing on the narrative that everyone else is cheating and we are doing it “the right way”, it seems to me that Cohen has laid his reputation on the line as an AD. You gotta admit it’s a bold move. I bet he doesn’t get much sleep July 31st. If Aug.1 brings some revelation he looks like a genius. (Not betting on it) And if he’s wrong and we end up getting whitewashed in recruiting, does this mean we’re looking for a new AD soon afterwards? And has Freeze built up enough clout to outlast him into another administration? Inquiring minds want to know…

Ok someone catch me up on this with some cliff notes. What goes down August 1st? Is it some new rule with NIL or portal crap? I can’t keep up anymore

From my understanding, and I could be wrong, August 1st is the first time the salary cap & NIL offers will be enforced and schools can directly pay players through their "cap" of 20.5 million per school. The reason we are so far down in recruiting at the moment is because we are not directly telling any of the athletes how much they can make outside of the salary cap through NIL at Auburn. From my understanding, some schools are telling the players that we will give you $X,XXX against our cap amount, and can guarantee/help you find an NIL deal for $X,XXX. I believe with the new regulations if schools were to facilitate any NIL deals outside of the amount they can legally give against the $20.5 million cap it would also count against the cap space. And also Cohen has said these schools will be "heavily punished" if they break the cap space rules. I'm sure I missed some things but long story short we are trying to play it conservatively and within the rules. With Cohen having a background in law he's not one to take any unnecessary risks without knowing the outcome.

8/1 is when the official written offers can go out. Right now all the offers are just promises, nothing on paper.

Not exactly positive where his law background is from but the Auburn Live podcast mentioned it in the video about the whole collective stuff a few days ago.

It is going to be interested for sure. With what the rulings stated goals and stuff are, my head says that our position is probably closer to what the intended goal is. I don't see them making this ruling with the objective to just allow an additional $20M on top of the lawlessness that has been NIL. The stance we took and comments made, they have to be pretty confident in our position.

Yep, he’ll either be a genius or a moron. But, even if everyone has to come back and only make offers per the rules like we are, that’s still everyone else. We are so far behind the 8 ball, even on even footing, will we be able to sway enough recruits to flip to salvage recruiting? I think we should have just kept doing whatever everyone else is doing. It’ll be the same for everyone Aug 1 no matter what happens.

Could Senator Tubs be giving the inside information to Auburn? Isn’t he spearheading this NIL stuff in DC?

Worth noting that we shouldn't wake up on August 1st and expect to just flip 5 guys right away. It will probably take a few weeks for Cohens "strategy" to pan out. Players will have to go through a bunch of legal work and work with their agents to figure out how this new era will work. If all goes how Cohen thinks it will, National Signing Day and the weeks leading up to NSD will be a much bigger deal than August 1st.

Why does any of this matter at this point if any school (including Auburn) can write a big check in December for a signing?

It doesn't (as seen by Na'eem Offord last season) but at the same time it's a lot harder to flip 15+ players when you only have 7 guys in your class. We would much rather be in the situation where other teams are trying to flip our players and all we have to do is match offers.
Nowadays with half of these guys transferring after collecting a check and not getting any playing time year one. I am a lot more ok with sacrificing a few high school guys for some portal studs like an Eric Singleton or Xavier Chaplin even if we only get to see them play for one year or two.
