If we go 10-2, losing to 2 rivals, but get in the playoffs and win the big trophy …

… what would the reaction here be?

The reason I bring it up is that Finebaum’s guest host posed the question yesterday, specifically if we lose to LSU and Auburn but get in the playoffs and get hot and run the table.

He contended that Bama fans should be fine with that and in the current college football environment beating rivals should drop down the priority list.

I am all about the big trophy but there’s a side of me that can never, ever, ever deprioritize beating rivals’ asses.

Thoughts?

Bama lost to AU by 2 scores in 2017 and still won the NCG. Meanwhile AU beat both their biggest rivals convincingly in the regular season.

Guess which fan base was much more happy by the end?

The 2017 Iron Bowl did not matter.

I would be very happy if we won the big trophy.

That dude’s admonition about deprioritizing beating rivals just rubbed me the wrong way.

I care more about championships than regular season games.

Putting aside 2017, I think for the most part anOSU fans were able to enjoy their NC, despite losing to Michigan.

I am in agreement with you. Like I said, the dude sounded to me … and it may not have been his intention … like he was ridiculing the very idea of worrying about beating rivals.

Losing to Auburn and Tenner will not matter if we win the Natty.

Our rival is everybody. Winning the national championship matters most

I'm all for the NC. Let the Barn and LSWho worry about stupid rivalries. That is what second tier programs do.

Then they’d need 14 more after that to equal what we just did to them

Give me the trophy. I don't care who we lose too.

Any time we win a championship and AU or UT try to talk shite about winning a game against us it’s like this scene in Mad Men

We would be national champs so I can certainly live with it.

Both teams achieved their season objectives.

Beating rivals is good. Winning championships is better.

Auburn doesn't bother me and neither does LSU.

But, frick Tennessee. I want to go full Rome on Carthage every time we play them.

The playoff has reduced the importance of rivalry games.

In the not so distant future, I could see Alabama playing walk-ons in the Iron Bowl to protect starters. Eventually it will be like the last weekend of the NFL
