A distinguished leader with over 20 years of experience in higher education, Mohler currently serves as executive vice president for research, innovation and knowledge at Ohio State University and chief scientific officer of OSU’s Wexner Medical Center. He served as the university’s acting president in 2023, successfully leading one of the largest public flagships in the nation.

As acting president, Mohler led 15 academic colleges and programs serving over 65,000 students, and advanced key initiatives in economic development, college athletics, enrollment growth, academic excellence and campus safety, among other areas. Mohler is a strong advocate for increased educational access and student success, and he has supported innovative programs to enhance entrepreneurial learning, improve graduation outcomes and align education with career pathways.

Mohler joined Ohio State in 2011 as the director of the Dorothy M. Davis Heart and Lung Research Institute and subsequently served as chair of the department of physiology and cell biology, vice dean of research in the College of Medicine, and vice president for research for the university. His current role at Ohio State is dedicated to growing high-impact academics, research, scholarship and entrepreneurship across the enterprise, as well as building strategic partnerships with government and industry leaders to foster innovation and fuel economic and workforce development.

Under Mohler’s leadership, Ohio State has risen in national research rankings, and research and development expenditures have increased by around $600 million annually – topping $1.5 billion. He has supported over $100 million in gifts and led academic efforts to establish several transformational academic centers and initiatives on campus, including a 300-acre innovation district focused on accelerating collaboration across public, private and academic sectors to drive academic achievement and economic success while preparing future-ready graduates.

Mohler earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from Wake Forest University and his doctorate in cell and molecular physiology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He performed a postdoctoral fellowship in the Howard Hughes Medical Institute at Duke University before being appointed to the faculty at Vanderbilt University and later the University of Iowa.

I like it! Specializes in Biomedical Medicine. That is huge news for research money potential for the University.

Seems to have a big medical background for a university that doesn't have a medical school...not that that's a bad thing. A strong STEM focus would be great...and coming from Ohio St he knows the importance of football in the grand scheme of things...but academics should always be the main focus...hopefully no woke nonsense baggage.

I know you felt compelled to toss in the word woke for silly arse reasons, but take a trip to Ohio sometime.

It’s basically Alabama except they say pop instead of coke. You see more confederate flags outside of Chillicothe and Dayton than you would in Eufaula or Decatur. It’s very stupid but it’s true.

Seems like a great choice on the surface. Really look forward to what he can do on the research side.

I saw more confederate flags driving through Ohio than I've seen in Georgia and Alabama combined. Their rednecks make southerners look like super models.

Or it could just be full of people that don’t CONSTANTLY obsess over people’s personal politics. This was a post about a newly appointed university President that came from the state university of a Red State and we can’t get 4 post in without someone bringing up “woke, libs, soy”

Very fricking weird behavior. I wonder if yall are able to put on socks or kiss your wife without thinking of politics

I do know through people I’m close with that UA is making a big push in their nurse practitioner programs and I could definitely see them working their way into more and more into advanced medical related programs just to expand the UA systems footprint in that field.

The only way UA can become an elite public university is with a medical school. Thats where the big research dollars are…

I actually have kids going to the University. Not wanting a DEI loving, woke, leftwing college president is my perogative...doesn't matter how many soyboy libtards on here downvote it. Couldn't care less. These are the same dumbasses that go to silly No Kings protests like clueless imbeciles.

Maybe the university should plan for a world where AI is omnipresent?

Yes, let's chase that sweet govt money from an institution that can't even sell its own treasuries nowadays.

The medical school as well as residency and fellowship programs fall under The University of Alabama. It's labeled University of Alabama Medical Center under ERAS. It was that way when I applied for Residency and it's that way now as I'm applying for Fellowship.

People only associate the medical school as UAB's because the main campus is in Birmingham.
