Ole Miss is probably going to have to cap enrollment because they don't have space for everyone.

That's cause it only takes an ACT score of 18 to enroll. Lots of dumb kids have no choice, they cant get in anywhere else.

If you can fog a mirror they’ll give you a scholarship.

Not Ole Miss' fault. The state controls admission standards for all public universities in MS.

They are giving out more scholarship money too. Just talked to a kid I know that decided on Ole Miss over LSU and Bama because of how much more they offered. Very smart kid with well over 4.0 gpa and high act score.

I do wish they would cap enrollment. They are already having housing and peaking issues.

That being said, with other universities seeing enrollment declining from the enrollment cliff, it’s nice to see Ole Miss booming.

I don’t know about other universities, but all 3 of LSU, Alabama and Ole Miss have all 3 exploded

LSU is having record applications too of over 40,000. Our administration has wised up and embraced the OOS model Alabama and Ole Miss have embraced for years.

A lot of Northeast kids are going to the SEC now for the ideal college experience. LSU is bringing in a lot of New Jersey and Maryland kids now our Texas numbers are back to when I was in school too.

Big surprise to me is the success Arkansas has had with Louisiana kids. I have two LSU legacy family members at UA and they’ve gotten a lot of kids who would have gone to Ole Miss/Alabama in the past

Log of kids would be better off going to trade school where they could make a good living quick. Liberal Arts and Gender Studies degrees only get you so far.

What's happening all over the country is that everyone feels the need to graduate from a 'named' school. Basically, one that is even RECOGNIZED. It's killing the Western Illinois's of the world along with other second-line schools which formerly filled an important role for certain subsets of students.

Not that Ole Miss or LSU is that great of a brand academically...but at least people have HEARD of both and pretty much know where they are.

Great article about it in the journal last month. It's kinda sad actually. Bottom line is that people don't want to pay $100k for a four year degree at Western Ill. And i don't blame them. And as much as I would have loved to send my kid to LSU, there was no way I was paying out of state tuition. MAY have considered in-state tuition. Fortunately she had some other choices.

Only place off-limits to her was Aggie. I would simply not allow it in my house.

In high school I went to LSU over Ole Miss and Arkansas but was mostly considering Ole Miss. However, way more Shreveport kids were choosing Ole Miss over Arkansas as the second SEC option back in 2010. Surprised how many south LA kids I see going to Arkansas now too.

It is more money but I think it hurts them academic ranking wise. Bama has dropped in rankings since they started chasing OOS kids. Not sure about Ole Miss. Auburn is growing also but they still limit their total enrollment.
