Sounds like momentum is back to to continuing the 8 game schedule which means one major thing, end of rivalry games. Bama AD and the dictator Sankey all but said that Third Saturday in October and Deep South Oldest rivalries will be done unless the 9 game schedule is adopted. Thanks Texas and OU, you guys have come in and destroyed historic games in the once best conference. I couldn't care less if the Red River game is played or the overrated Lonestar Showdown game happens, those aren't SEC rivalries. This is SEC football, and SEC fans should get to watch the games that our grandads and great grandads watched. Why did we ever let some Yankee with no ties to our region come in and start using us all as his money making chess board. Sankey sucks and the continuous expansion of the conference out of the South and his obsession with money have ruined our once great conference.

Any change, even a change for the better, is always accompanied by discomforts.

How have any of these changes been good? I actually would like to hear some cause rn I'm pretty disillusioned with it all, and I would like a reason to keep watching my favorite sport.

You just witnessed lesser conferences put lesser teams into the 12-team playoff over more deserving SEC teams ranked higher. That was an almost total disdain for SOS. How is eating our own to the tune of 9 conference games going to help the playoff cause?
Did Sankey spend any time explaining to the University presidents how much more TV money ESPN was willing to pay the SEC for that extra game?

9 game schedule is the way to go.
The 2020 covid year only SEC schedule was a blast to watch.

Tennessee is old news. Learn to adapt for the betterment of the conference.

Yes cause Venabales 22-17 record is rooted in adapting to new conferences and is the future of college football lol

This is all false.

The league office only cares about the bottom line.
Culture and traditions got tossed out the window.

No, it's not the way to go unless you want the conference to be weaker and accomplish less as a whole.
2020 is a prime example of why it's bad. So many SEC teams didn't get ranked when they should have simply because they played tough schedules and had more losses. Then in the bowl games, they were playing teams that were ranked and were obviously much worse.

Close your eyes for a moment and imagine OU and Texas in the Big1G. That would preserve your old games, and the SEC would probably move on just fine. But a big monster would be developing to your north and west. Texas and OU were going to leave the Big 12, it was a matter of time. Fortunately for them, they have strong athletic programs and TV followings that gave them leverage.

Everyone has down periods. Oklahoma is still a big brand. Tennessee, not so much. Tennessee has yet to do anything in football since Fulmer.

Nobody likes change except a baby with a wet diaper.

Not sure how its false. Id love to be proven wrong. I want to win a national championship, but if I only cared about churning through a schedule to win a title, then I'd watch professional sports. What makes college sports so fun are the rivalries and traditions. I've forced myself to get onboard with NIL and the transfer portal but if they start taking away the rivalry games that have been played for 100 years, then I'll draw the line. I know i'm probably in the minority with this stance but oh well.

Could annual rivalries like Alabama-Tennessee and Auburn-Georgia be in danger of ending? With the SEC seemingly unwilling to commit to adding a ninth conference football game until it has clarity about upcoming changes to the College Football Playoff, doomsday might be arriving soon for some of the league’s most storied rivalries. Among them: Alabama and Tennessee’s Third Saturday in October game. Speaking to reporters at SEC spring meetings, league commissioner Greg Sankey was asked whether the league could protect two rivalries per team. #alabama #collegefootball #alabamafootball #rolltide #rtr #Auburn

9 games is stupid. We should jump from 8 to 10 if anything. Otherwise, 50% of teams will play 4 conference home games and the rest will get 5 conference home games. 10 would divide it up to everyone getting 5.

It's funny how no one cares when rivalries end unless it involves their school.

Tennessee beat OU by double digits on their home field, beat them in basketball, and baseball. Dude just bow out yall literally just went 2-6 in conference play. The jury is out and yall proved this year that you guys have feasted on bad teams for years lol
