But why? Why play these games? USC wasn’t anything special. So why? Where did it help? USC went 7-6 and LSU should’ve beat them.

Let's expound on this.
2020 - Mississippi State went 4-7
2021 - UCLA went 8-4
2022 - Florida State went 10-3
2023 - Florida State went 13-1
2024 - USC went 7-6
2023 FSU would be considered a "good loss." The rest are terrible.
