One thing I learned watching the LSU-Arkansas baseball games

Ben McDonald and Lynn Rollins are national treasures.
Sure, he's (they are) a bit of a homer, but what team's announcers aren't? He (they) knows the game and adds meaningful commentary.
Of course, his (their) strengths are his (their) one-liners, holy crap - especially, as I have been corrected, Lynn.
"This guy could throw a tater tot threw an onion ring"
"In today's college game, it's all about velo. What happened to placement? I don't really care how hard you throw ball four"!
That's just a couple of nuggets I picked up this weekend.
Edited to correct my wrong conceptions about who said what.

Lynn Rollins said that, not Ben

You're actually quoting Lynn Rollins

Oh - I'm sorry - thanks for the correction. Still, a very competent announcing team that I enjoyed very much. This was my first exposure, I did not mean to denigrate either guy, just thought that one was Ben.

Again - thx. LSU guys all over my mistake.

Lynn has one liners like that all the time. I love him for it, adds some nostalgia to how baseball games used to be called. It's hokey but awesome

Ben McDonald is awesome but “Tater tot through an onion ring” was Lyn Rollins. Not sure about the rest but you may have the 2 confused. Some don’t like Lyn but my word, I don’t know how he comes up with some of that stuff.
Edit- wasn’t trying to beat a dead horse…replies were just too quick haha

By far, the most entertaining announcers I've heard this year. Could listen to them all day (well, parts of 2 days for that Friday night game!)

But they are good announcers and really do talk well about both teams.
Both guys are entertaining and do have a lot of knowledge.
Good group

You have grasp firm on the obvious.

I don't think he's a homer at all. He even said during the weekend multiple times that Arkansas is the most complete team in the country. Now, I definitely agree that he doesn't try to hide the fact that he's an LSU fan. But, I find him to be pretty objective when it comes to calling the game.

We've been blessed as LSU fans to get this team for the majority of our games on SECN+ and it's the reason LSU fans always say that we have the best baseball broadcast team.

I need to know Ben McDonald’s thoughts on the New Bridge

But to your point... Lynn Rollins IS a national treasure. Trying to be a better color guy than him for college baseball is like trying to cook crawfish with a cigarette lighter.

I enjoy when we have Lyn and Ben on the Tuesday night non-conf. games and then when we get them for a weekend SEC game.
As far as opposing viewers go, I thought both Lyn and Ben did a good job complimenting the Hogs, DVH and Matt Hobbs on various facets of their game. Since Ben also spends time doing other SEC games for ESPN, I think he has more experience being balanced in his broadcasting ability. He also does some broadcasting for the Baltimore Orioles.
With SEC baseball broadcasts, you may get Ben, or Todd Walker and then have Jared Mitchell on the studio recap show. Good bit of LSU guys spread around.
I don't mind listening to Chris Burke (Tenn), Kyle Peterson (Stanford), or David Dellucii (Ole Mss) on TV broadcasts.

Is Lynn the one that was commentating Friday night when the game was on SEC+? If so, I enjoyed his commentary and his voice. He just that classic baseball announcer voice.

Yes. He did ask to check and see if anyone had a possum.

Yes...that was Lynn and Ben. Lynn was made for baseball color commentating
