The starting QB for Ole Miss next season, Austin Simmons, just received his first degree from Ole Miss at the age of 19. Some may remember that he was able to reclassify in high school to get his high school diploma at the age of 16. He did that in high school while playing both baseball and football.

With the current landscape of college sports, it’s great to hear about kids taking their college education seriously.

What is a degree in multi-disciplinary studies and how do you go to grad school for it?

A multi-disciplinary degree is where a student can ask for a range of classes and, if approved, can get a degree that focuses on a varied range as opposed to a specialized subject.

This could range from something very technical (like a hybrid of electrical engineering and software programming) to very non-technical (like mixing various drawing and writing classes).

It's basically combining multiple minors (in Ole Miss' case, 3 different ones) to form a single major.

As for how that gets someone into grad school, your pre-grad degree doesn't HAVE to line up directly with your post-grad. Some people will get a technical bachelor's and a non-technical masters (my Bachelor's is in Cybersecurity but I have my MBA, figuring it would be more beneficial if my goal was to move up within the leadership).

It’s wild that this already has 3 downvotes considering just how much this board bitches about football players now.

My undergrad is physics and my MS is in EE…but I had to pass a semester and a summer of electronics courses to join the program.

Multiple-disciplinary seems like you didn’t get senior level classes of anything. Crazy to go right into grad school from there. More power to him.

This term no longer exists.

And now you’ve mastered how to put pickles and onions on a burger. Congrats

Jeez. Just watched his 03-18-25 interview. What an impressive young man. Not as easy as it looks. I’ll be cheering for him.

I can’t put cheese and condiments on the same side of the meat, but pickles and onions can go up top.

I never worked as an EE, mostly been working an obscure field, fracture mechanics of old metals, in ME. I would have been unstoppable with this MathCad Prime software in college.

"You can get a good look at how bad historically Ole Miss athletics are on WIkipedia. But I'd rather just whip ya'lls arse every year."

He seems to be a really good egg. He may be the most intelligent QB we've ever had.

How many 16 year old kids even think about finishing high school early? Is two too high?

That is quite an accomplishment.
