Liam Doyle pitched the top of the first inning and then they went into a rain delay. Dutton, for Auburn didn't have to pitch. If the rain delay lasts a while, Doyle may not be able to pitch tonight.

Wouldn't that be a damn shame. Tennessee is playing at home, so they have no one to blame but themselves...

They didn't get screwed. You have to plan for that contingency and arrange your pitching rotation accordingly.

He's only thrown a few pitches. What is the physical reason he couldn't re-warm and continue?

If he only threw one inning then start him again tomorrow or Sunday. Problem solved.

Was it a real rain delay or one of those fake South Carolina ones?

In a case like this, up until first pitch the home team holds the most influence on whether to play. Obviously, Tennessee pushed to start the game.

The home team holds ALL the influence on whether to play. According to the SEC Commissioner's Regulations:

"The home institution’s Athletics Director (or his/her designee) shall have the authority to determine whether a contest should, prior to its start, be temporarily delayed until a later time on the same date or another time on another date within the scheduled series. Once a contest has started, the decision to suspend play is the responsibility of the umpires."
