Oats, Pearl, Barnes…Golden

we can all agree have built their programs into respectable national contenders. It’s crazy how neither have yet to win it all with the amount of talent they have had.
Other than last year losing in the first round, Golden didn’t need several seasons to build a contender. What takes several seasons to build like Oats, Pearl, Barnes; Golden needed just this season and voila! a national championship!
and FWIW, I’d easily take Oats or Pearl at OU in a heartbeat.

Not really, winning a national title in college basketball is hard as frick.

Golden's rise has been amazing. He got his start, what, something like just 10 years ago? Coaching for Pearl at AU. AU Assistant - minor HC job - Gators - NC in that short of a timeframe is amazing.
Remember though that Pearl started building AU prior to NIL. Oates and Golden both started their rebuilds with NIL. You can build faster now. Still amazing what he's done though.

Florida was the better team this year although Florida survived a near disaster against Texas Tech. It's that easy to realize why good teams dont win national championships so often.

The Florida basketball brand that Golden took over is not even remotely close to what Pearl and even Oates stepped into. Like someone else mentioned, the landscape of the sport is also completely different.
One thing that is true though is that all three have done an incredible job. I think I'll hold off on crowning Golden as the next John Wooden until he does it without a guy having a legendary tournament. I joked about Kevin Ollie in another thread (and I don't think Golden will suffer that fate) but it was a very similar run.
Even with Clayton going off they still needed Texas Tech to miss 2 front ends in the final minute or so or they were just an underachieving Sweet 16 team. Narratives are funny.

Yup, and to anyone who disagrees, look at Coach K's record - a million Elite Eights, Final Fours etc. But a decade+ between NCG wins
