The only people who think Gary Danielson is elite are the under 40 crowd who have no clue.

He is not in the same league as
1. Keith Jackson
2. Frank Broyles.
3. Ron Franklin
4. Sean McDonough
5. Bob Griese
6. Todd Blackledge
7. Curt Gowdy
8. Dick Enberg
9. Lindsey Nelson
10. Bud Wilkinson
11. Chris Schenkel

Just off the top of my head without any research.

All make Danielson look like a confused high school kid calling his first b team game for a 1A on some local radio station.

Some of these names you confused younger posters have never heard of because you are to lazy to have studied the history of college football and think ESPN started CFB.

I wouldn't call Danielson "elite" but he definitely brought a lot of technical insight to the game. His problem was he had too many in game quirks of obsessing over one obscure play early in a game and repeating it for the next three quarters. Or he'd get hung up on one teams QB or another player and spend too much time repeating the kid's name throughout the game when other players either on the same team or even the other team were having good games and deserved recognition as well.

He just had too many obsessive quirks during the game to be called "elite". But he did bring a lot of technical football X's and O's insight to the game.

nobody thinks he's one of the best of all time; he's one of the best of this "modern era" of TV guys from like the 200-teens to present. I don't see why that'd be such a hot take. The problem is that the extreme far sides on both ends of the spectrum have warped what is actual real life.

Bama fans: Gary sucks! He hates bama! He cheers against us and always hopes we lose! He pulls for anyone playing us and I hate him and he sucks!

Everyone else: Gary sucks! He loves bama! He pulls for them and clearly cheers for them to win! I hate him and he sucks!

Neither of which are true btw.

He called many of Alabama’s biggest games during the Saban era. So like him or hate him, Danielson will always be a part of that. I was always neutral on him, but given that connection I hate to see another long time broadcaster hang it up. Because they’re not being replaced by quality.

which is simply due to the (should be obvious) fact that CBS gets the #1 game of the week and a shitton of times that happened to involve alabama. Pre-saban, I actually remember people saying that Gary (and verne) were UGA homers...due to the same kinda thing that from 02-08ish they just happened to call a ton of our games because we were good. There's really not much more to it than that.

Nothing to do now till that awful jayhawk football team starts playing but continue your obsession with my every post.

You need to get some more boyfriends or attend more liberal rallies that you support. Maybe you can get your hero Biden elected in 2028.

Pretty sure he said he was neutral.

Take a break, you're actually getting worse which is hard to believe.

Danielson is "elite" at mispronouncing names and reading facts about players and programs directly out of the Media Guide without doing any prep whatsoever. That does not apply to Bama or UGA. He's got an encyclopedic knowledge of those programs. However, if your lowly non-Bama/UGA team is against them, all you're going to hear is what's been force fed to him by the SID over his bran flakes that morning. Glad to see him go.

I hope Bill Raftery in hoops is not far behind.

Keith Jackson is indeed the gold standard for me, but I am still miffed we went through that whole 1998 season with ABC paying endless, fawning tributes to the man for his impending retirement only for him to change his mind a few weeks later. The Dude called games for another eight years.

"Tennessee 23, Florida State 16. And so it is done. I say goodbye to all of you. God bless and good night."

Yeah right . . .
