Goodman: I’m sick of these refs hating on Auburn’s Chad Baker-Mazara

Sports Writer article about CBM. His favorite player:
Goodmam column

quote:

Keep a close eye on CBM on Saturday when the No.1-ranked Tigers play No.6 Florida at Neville Arena (3 p.m. tipoff). Some veteran players get the benefit of the doubt from officials. Then there’s CBM. He could trip over his own feet and pick up a technical foul.

Goodman has been on our side since the Nate Oats Brandon Miller situation

Or I am making shite up.

Goodman is good friends with Bruce so he always tries to lower the narrative of expectations for Auburn. Seems a hater but actually isn’t. Not the greatest analyst. And yes CBM has been under the eye of the refs this season.

My complaint is more for Broome, he’s been getting raped, abused, fouled, pushed over and over during games and nothing gets called.

If the refs call a game as horrible as some we've seen this year and we lose, those refs may not make it out of the arena

That's the biggest issue. Chad is Chad, for better and worse. Johni doesn't get the respect he should, nor the respect comparable players get. That's undeniable, too, because the stats back it up. That impacts every game.

It doesn't help that as a team, we cry about EVERY call. CBM and Broome are the worst about it.

I agree. He's getting hammered in there.

Yeah if we're being honest Johni and Chad have both earned their reputations

Florida is as tough as it gets on the offensive glass. Tremendous test for us in that regard

If that dude is the ref this game will be a living hell to watch. He's he's the basketball Hubert Owens.

Force feed Johnni, Dylan, Chaney early get their bigs in foul trouble. Can’t pass up open shots if they double but if they play our bigs straight up play through the defenders chest.

I think Dylan is the X factor in this game. Defense without fouling. Energy and effort in rebounding. Plus need 6-8 points on put backs and dunks. Would love to see him take a pass deep in the post and not dribble or think and just one step turn around and lay it on the glass. If it’s blocked it’s blocked if he misses he misses but he could collect a couple fouls each game if he wouldn’t think to try to get his feet right

Jeff Goodman ( a friend of Pearl's on Field of 68) pretty much buried the NPOY debate and said Flagg should be the clear winner.

Just keep winning the POY thing will work itself out.

I'm not advocating for one or the other but that's pretty dumb. On what basis? Broome plays against a significantly more difficult schedule and leads in most every advanced statistic there is.

This is spot on, but I was encouraged that in the OU game it looked like the players (especially Broome) had really dialed this back. Made me think the coaches recognized it and worked on it with the players.

I ask all you Auburn fans to tell me, does this scenario sound possible for this team:
- NCAA sweet 16 or Elite 8 game
- AU versus a stubborn defensive minded team
- low scoring game, AU three point shooting is off that night
- refs calling it tight, Broome with three fouls by half time
- CBM fouls a player and screams at ref when he makes the call
- “X” Auburn player runs over to defend/support CBM and bumps ref, that player is ejected
- meltdown by AU commences

This kind of game is what we have to guard against in the NCAA tournament.

This^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^100%

ETA: Then he gets BS fouls called on him when he makes clean blocks to top it off.
