55 million ppl tuned into to bills vs chiefs and 44 million tuned into the eagles W(not as close of a game and no swifty but still). For perspective the ncaa football natty this year peaked at 26 mil, ncaam tourn semis bama uxoon drew 14 mil and 11 mil for Purdue ncst game. The men title was 14 mil, ncaaw title a surprising 17 mil, and women’s semis drawing 10 mil both games. NBA finals averaged 11 mil a game.

Of the top 100 broadcasts in 2023..........93 of them were NFL games.
The only non-NFL games that made the top 100 were
#21 - State of the Union Address (27.3M) (multiple networks)
#45 - Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade (22.3M) (NBC)
#58 - Ohio State vs Michigan (19.1M) (FOX)
#60 - Academy Awards (18.8M) (ABC)
#71 - SEC Championship (Alabama vs Georgia) (17.5M) (CBS)
#74 - College Football National Championship (Georgia vs TCU) (January 2023) (17.2M) (ESPN)
#92 - Next Level Chef - Episode 12 (15.7M) (FOX)

Makes me wonder how the other 300 million people were spending their time. Can someone please research that?

If you're watching professional athletes with minimal connection or loyalty to the program, might as well watch the best.
Hell, I think that this point NFL players have more pride in their franchises than college athletes have for their schools

World Series averaged almost 16 mil a game, college World Series almost 3 mil a game, college softball final game drew 2 mil. And wnba finals just under 2 mil. a game.

I'm not a betting man but I assume more people bet on the NFL than any other sport, which could explain the ratings.

Did not realize how big this was. And isn't covered by multiple networks as well?

NFL is a much better product than D1 CFB.
Every team has a legit shot at making a run at the title in the NFL.
College football is stale with the same 10-15 schools being the only ones with any chance at winning it all year in and year out.

I wonder how many people actively watch it. I know my mom/grandmothers always just had this on while they cooked for Thanksgiving growing up but weren't actually paying attention to it

I'm shocked people actually watch this, but maybe its because so many networks are covering it its all people see around that time on tv?

Fantasy Football is also a huge driver of NFL ratings

I think it probably has a lot to do with there being so many more teams/games too. Fans watch their games while others are on. In the NFL, you're typically going to have sometimes only one option for each TV window. One game at noon, one at 3:30, SNF, MNF, and TNF. College football has multiple marquee matchups competing at the same time for eyeballs at several different time slots most weekends. Unless you pay for sunday ticket or watch games at a sports bar, you can't flip around to different games in the NFL like you can in college
The NFL would still have better ratings, but I don't think the difference would be nearly as vast if they had competition for eyeballs like college football does across the networks.

CFB is trying to be NFL Lite but nobody can compete with the NFL. Trying to copy their model will crush them. The NFL has marketable stars.
You know when you watch a Chiefs game you will see Mahomes, Kelce, and Chris Jones. CFB doesn't have that. The stars players are moving around too much and fans lose interest.

It’s not rocket science.
The NFL has franchises in New York City, Boston, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, etc etc. These metropolitan areas represent a massive amount of this country’s population. College football is not that popular in most of these areas.
Hell, even here in the New Orleans metro area, a significantly larger number of people watch the Saints vs LSU games.
It is what it is.

I only watched to see Redskins and Bills.
Now that they are out my football viewing is over until Fall.
Only thing that would make me interested in Chiefs and Eagles would be if they both lose.

Yup, I say it alot - CFB teams of this era are living off of their universities' brands. Take that away and they start to look the same as all the failed NFL competitors leagues.
