To those wishing we could go backwards to the glorious 4-team CFP

But since when are postseason games guaranteed to be close? The average score of a CFP game from the four-team era was 40-21. The average BCS Championship: 33-18. What, are we gonna redesign the NFL playoffs if the NFC South champ looks crappy?
It may be true that “4 is enough” to determine a champ, and the current system definitely needs to be tweaked.
But 2-loss, 8th seed Ohio State may end up winning the whole damned thing if they play like they did last night.
More than that, I like watching football and things being played out on the field.

4 was always a stupid number for a playoff.

The problem was the teams in the playoffs, not the numbers. But 8 would be fine.
Auto bids doesn't work when you have two good conferences and five auto bids.
They need to incorporate strength of schedule for the rest. Period. Going 11-1 against a garbage schedule and getting in guarantees this trash.

Basically, you can't continually redefine the postseason just because you don't like the results

All the auto bids did was eliminate better teams and include worse teams. If they dropped the auto bids, 12 is probably perfect.

They need to put everyone in Bowls and then pick the playoff teams. Either a 2 team or 4 team playoff after the bowls. Put the top 8, 10, 12, whatever teams all against each other and then pick from the best teams after that. The non-deserving will be eliminated in the bowls. Also it would mean every team in would have beaten a top 20 team atleast.

Agree 8 is the sweet spot. But they’ll expand to 16 to try and keep people like Sankey happy, and even more bc of the $$$$$$$

Right I’m a Bammer so I can’t like Texas, UGA, or Ohio State, but those 3 plus Oregon are the 4 best teams in the playoffs, regardless of the made up “seeding”
4 is the best option for college football playoffs, though more would probably benefit my team more often in this post Saban playoff world.

Agree 8 is the sweet spot.
Just play Bowl games and then pick the 2 or 4 best teams after and let them play for it. All the bad teams will likely be outted in the bowls and the real top teams will be in the NC.

Do away with conferences as they are now. There are what, 60-70 p4 teams, add a couple of g5 teams yo get to 72, divide into 8 9-team regional divisions, have an 8 game conference schedule and two rotating out of division opponents, top two in each division plays for the division title, then the 8 division champs get into the playoff. Add in two preseason exhibition games against g5 teams that dont count for shite but help teams dial in for the season. Everybody under one roof so money spreads equally, and we go back to regional play and rivalries which made college football special in the first place.

I completely disagree. You should have auto bids for conference champs, but it shouldn’t be an automatic bye.

Ohio State looked like a legitimate contender for the natty last night and if they beat Oregon they’ll have a very solid chance of winning it. In the four team system Ohio State does not make it

That's why they proposed the 14 team 3-3-2-2-1 model

So? They lost to Oregon and Michigan.
But they beat a shitty Tennessee team and suddenly everything changes?
Hell, if this is your only standard, Alabama should have been in.
