30-4 vs the ACC is wild. What is the season record against each of the other Power 4 conferences?

State’s loss was to Butler, a perennially good basketball program on a neutral floor.
A loss but not a bad devastating loss by any means.

Colley's Basketball conference comparisons
8-7 vs Big 10
14-2 vs Big 12
28-4 vs ACC (((Note: I'm not sure why Colley shows 28-4 vs that tweet claiming 30-4. Maybe there are a couple exhibitions included in the 30-4 figure? Or maybe Colley is wrong? Or maybe the tweet is wrong?)))

A lot of basketball left — right now Butler is sitting at #74 in the NET, and that was a game played on a neutral court, so it's a Quad 2 loss (#51-100).
If at some point they can rise to #50 throughout the season, it would move up and become a higher quality Quad 1 (#1-50).
Unfortunately Bart Torvik has Butler predicted to finish 15–16 (8–12), but that would certainly be a team to root for in the Big East if you're a State fan.
Just taking the opportunity to talk some of this out in case someone reading through doesn't understand what all of this means.

The quadrant system is used to identify which teams have more quality wins when it comes to Selection Sunday for the NCAA Tournament. Beating a Top-30 Team at home is considered equally difficult as beating a Top-75 Team away:
Quadrant 1: Home 1-30, Neutral 1-50, Away 1-75.
Quadrant 2: Home 31-75, Neutral 51-100, Away 76-135.
Quadrant 3: Home 76-160, Neutral 101-200, Away 135-240.
Quadrant 4: Home 161-353, Neutral 201-353, Away 241-353.

Quad 2 is still considered a quality opponent.
The committee will look at Q1 records but also look at Q1+Q2 records.
It's Q3 and especially Q4 losses that are resume killers.

I think every SEC team at this point is a Quad 1 opponent. That is huge heading into conference play. There would be no bad losses in the league, and I don't think that there has ever been a season where that is the case.

Definitely.
It's just become one of my favorite occasional traditions to check in periodically and see how everyone on your schedule has been doing.
In fact when we had a meathread on the Alabama board it was, "so-and-so just lost and is in danger of dropping down to a Q3."

Sometimes those smaller schools will surprise you with a really good season and move up a quadrant, which helps, especially if you find yourself on the bubble.

I remember when the ACC was considered THE premier basketball conference... them and the PAC-12.
How times have changed.

Sc had a q4 loss in November..it's shameful what sc now has to do to offset that loss.
I bet they need to win 25...that just doesn't seem right. A brand new team just feeling each other out.
No way sc loses that game now..
