For all the criticism of the CFP, I think we can call the winner the conclusive Champ.

There's enough teams in the field that who ever wins out is the undisputed Champion. I'm grateful for that, because I'm old enough to remember when it was a popularity contest. One could make the argument that this continued even up until last year with FSU, and some may argue UGA, getting shafted. Those arguments are now a thing of the past. For all my criticism of the CFP, I can't say it hasn't given me exactly what I have wanted ever since I was a child: a true playoff format where an undisputed winner could be crowned. That's a good thing.

Whoever wins will be the champ of the first major college football invitational tournament.

The last one standing will be the most legit national champion ever imo.

No, that doesn't mean I think it needs to expand beyond 12 to make it even more "legit", but this season's champion will be tested like none before.

No more teams doesn’t equate to more legit. 4 was perfect. Even in professional sports the best teams don’t always win. It just who is hot at the right time assuming you have enough athletes to compete in football. Baseball is the only sport I can think of where guys who are not the biggest, strongest and fastest can compete, be successful and win titles. That’s why baseball is my favorite sport.

So you think less teams = more legit? Who is to say that a team who wins a regular season game wasn't just hot that week?

In the current structure of the CFP no I do not think adding more teams makes it more legit at all. You’re not taking the 12 best teams. You’ve guaranteed spots to teams regardless of record disregarding conference strength, SOS and then give these worse teams byes in the first round of the playoffs. This format is terrible.

So, how do you determine who is the best team(s)?

More teams doesn't akways make it more legit. There comes a point where adding more actually just makes the entire thing an exercise in randomness.

Not trying to start an argument, but you seem very unhappy with the expansion from 4 to 12. You also seem unhappy Alabama is not in the 12?

But you do realize Alabama is definitely not a top 4 team?

I apologize if I read that wrong..

I can think of several seasons, where a team that should by all rights, should have been in the final 4 and would have probably won weren't chosen over "Blue Bloods" . FSU last year is the most recent. And before anyone jumps in says they didn't belong and justifies it by how they played in the bowl game: 1) You don't know the bowl results on the day the 4 were chosen. 2) Half their defense opted out prior to the bowl. The point is that argument is now moot due to the expanded playoffs.

I'll call them the tourney winner.

A very weak field this season which can happen but this time it was caused by TP/NIL without a doubt.

Nah I still dont like the format but I understand why Georgia is okay with it. If they are going to let mediocrity in they might as well Bama in. Bama, unlike a handful of CFP teams, has a chance to win the whole thing as I maintain there's no real alpha in the top.

As an Auburn fan I am okay with Bama being let out.

Well you can't reason with anyone who doesn't use reason to arrive at their conclusion. Anyone declaring the champ of the CFP isn't the true champ is not living in reality. Are there some like that? Absolutely, quiet a few, but they are recognized by the whole as exactly what they are. Who ever wins I will be the first to recognize their legitimacy as Champ.

Which teams in the playoff are mediocre and which teams are not?

You don't actually know that. You may surmise it. You may even have some evidence for it, but NO ONE can say that for certain. So what do you do? You built a model that inarguably allows the best teams from each conference to play each other and sort it out on the field. You may be one of the 12 best in the country and get left out.....or you may not be on of the best 12, but it's a flawed argument to hold a team is one of the best in the country when it wasn't even one of the best in it's own conference. No one, and I repeat NO ONE knows for a certainty which conference is best until the bowls and CFP games are complete. Prior to that you are arguing opinions, not facts.

Indiana, SMU, Boise, Notre Dame, Arizona State, Penn State

Teams that have the talent:
Bama (discrepancies at QB)
Georgia (holes at QB/WR)
Texas (holes at RB)
Ohio State (hole at HC, QB)

I guess Oregon sits there with no immediate holes but no big wins since they needed to bushleague the rule book to beat OhioState.
