Not sure what kind of distance or accuracy he's getting but a consistent 4.7 hang time at a combine ain't too shabby.

This makes me feel better about the punting situation. Thorson was actually a real asset this season with his kicks. Playing with a 2nd string QB where we might have a low scoring game, it helps to have good punting for field position.

I had no idea that we had 2 scholarship punters on the roster. Pretty smart I guess lol.

Just read his 24/7 profile.I was expecting some type of preferred walk-on.Not sure I've ever heard of having 2 punters on scholarship but makes Kirby look like a savant now.

We are moving up to 105 scholarships and had a couple to spare last year. Makes perfect sense

Also, he is a great punter, but like I stated in the other thread…kicking is like 90% mental in college and pros.
This kid is going to be walking into a college playoff game to punt for the first time, with top college rushers and returners. It’s not just out there pointing in a combine

Have him practice live punting daily with the 1st team punt defense rushing him.

College football is moving up to 105, but I am pretty sure the SEC is holding at 85.

MSN.com

Scholarship limits for SEC football programs will remain at 85 during the 2025 season, a league official confirmed to CBS Sports Thursday. The news comes as college football programs prepare for fallout from the House v. NCAA lawsuit settlement, which ie expected to standardize roster sizes for college football programs going forward.

Yeah. Filling a scholarship roster spot with the #1 punter in the nation makes Kirby's roster management look even more genius, given Throson's freak injury and it's timing. I may be wrong but I would be willing to bet there is probably not another team in the playoffs who would be in this position after loosing their starting punter. Just hope he's "as advertised."

Once again, this raises questions about Sankey and his team. Did they give a reason why the SEC should remain at 85? One outcome seems to be that programs with plentiful big donors, like Texas, will just pay the tuition/housing/food/NIL for 20 top athletes out of pocket. For everybody else that will be difficult to match. And the other conferences will be able to put an extra 20 players on scholarship. GT, Florida St, Clemson, etc. must be applauding this SEC decision.

Makes no sense.
Why would we constrain SEC teams to 85 with other conferences will be at 105. Is Sankey being paid under the table by the B1G to sabotage the SEC?

Football isn’t the only thing that changed. Athletic departments are going to have to manage a lot of sports differently with both the allowable scholarships and roster sizes. Not just D1.

Apparently he was the quarterback of his high school team last year and threw 13 touchdowns and can run too.

Yea, I saw a lot of changes across the board. I just didn’t realize the SEC is keeping their universities at the 85 scholarship limit. Apparently they made that decision last month. Not sure why they would care…
