Brian Kelly was smart to go to LSU

The guy has a career losing record vs ranked teams. He can’t beat anyone on the road, he can’t beat anyone in an opener, and he went from 1st place in the SEC to middle of the pack by losing 3 straight games this year.

Now, to anyone rational, the facts above would not give you much reason to be hopeful for the future.

But not LSU fans.

All Ol BK had to do was finish the season with a couple of victories over 6-win teams at home and then give a passionate speech about how they will definitely be in the National Championship game next year.

Of course, it worked. He’s got LSU fans confident for the future again. It’s actually sad. Brian Kelly isn’t a Top 10 CFB coach, but he’s unquestionably the best con man in football.

I just don’t understand how any university guarantees that much money to someone that has never won a big game. His ND runs were against soft schedules other than the years they played Georgia and Clemson. I mean I understand Ole Miss and Kiffin because Ole Miss is actually relevant now, but LSU is just 5 years removed from a championship.

This is just lazy, even for this board.

Kirby Smart’s teams couldn’t score more than 17 points in a game until his sixth season at UGA. I mean good lord he lost to Ed O by 20+ TWICE. Kelly is in his third season at LSU and, while he has left a lot to be desired, has already played for a conference title and produced a Heisman winner. This whole cesspool of a board shat on us all off-season and told us we would suck this year and now wants to act all surprised. If we’re having this same conversation at this time next year then I’ll be concerned.

Lol. You typed all that out and it sounds like you actually thought about it. Sad really.

Y’all fricking sucked this year, but in classic Alabama fashion, you will backdoor your way in, get matched up with Notre Dame and probably SMU and will play for a natty with losses to Vanderbilt and Oklahoma. GFY.

I'm sure for a 40 iq swamp dweller that stream of consciousness trolling sounds like thought.

I didn't read all that. Did he discuss the man-boy party grinding?

This is true. Both teams underperformed expectations but neither completely suck. We’re just spoiled fans…not that there’s anything wrong with that.

I get hiring him. The idea is he was good enough but ND didn't have what's necessary to cross the finish line.

But at 60+ years old you have to figure he is what he is. Giving him a long, expensive contract means you're in it for the long haul.

And now ND is in the playoffs, looks pretty decent, and is sitting on a likely top ten recruiting haul. Perhaps the resources aren't the problem.

Yet LSU fired Orgeron then hired Kelly who failed to beat Kirby at least 2 times.

His record in big games doesn't bode well for a playoff format...
