What does the committee do with Notre Dame?

Top 4 in the country in both polls, they are 11-1, do they get a bye? I mean the language of the “protocols” specifies only conference champions.
So they have be 6th right?
So one through 5 must be conference champions. It doesn’t specify if that Group of or Power conferences so any conference champions.
Let’s assume the current highest rank win. In no particular order that’s OU, Texas, SMU, BSU and ASU.
1. OU 13-0 Big 10 winner Bye
2. Tex 12-1 SEC winner Bye
3. SMU 12-1 ACC winner Bye
4. BSU 12-1 MW winner Bye
5. ASU 11-2 Big 12 winner
6. Notre Dame 11-1 indy
7. PSU 12-2 Big 10
8. Vols 10-2 SEC
9. UGA 10-3 SEC
10. tOSU 10-2 Big 10
11. Indiana 11-1 Big 10
12. Bama 9-3 SEC
Are we sure this is what we want?

They can’t get a bye nor do they deserve one. Don’t play in a conference. Highest seeding they can get is 5 which will probably happen

You do understand that SMU, Boise State, and Arizona State won’t be 3,4, and 5?

Notre dame is 5 seed. Conference title is irrelevant

He does not

I'm more worried that a loss by UGA will dump them out of the 12.
Your list shows
B1G x4
SEC x4
Conference champs x3
Independent x1.
If the committee feels there should be another conference team, and UGS gets belted by the longhorns, then there's a chance they drop UGA below those 2 B1G teams and (since 'Bama beat UGA this year) that the Dawgs get relegated to the park bench.

If they win their conference the top 4 will. 5 was based on the ASU getting a bump as the committee seems to love conference champs.
The four highest-ranked conference champions will be seeded one through four and will receive a first-round bye. The fifth conference champion will be seeded where it was ranked or at No. 12 if it is outside the top 12 rankings. Non-conference champions ranked in the top four will be seeded beginning at No. 5. Because of this, the seeding, 1 through 12, could look different than the final rankings.

ND can only get a 5 or 6 seed which is why Bama will get the 11. They want Bama ND at ND for ratings.
Either ND or Penn State if Oregon beats Penn State.

We all want that game. Will be Milroe's last game.

My bad, 5 or 6 which means if ASU wins the Big 12 they will probably put Bama at 12 to face them against ND.

ND won’t get a bye BECAUSE them playing an extra game means an extra opportunity at massive eye balls.
This is $. It’s why Bama is about to break South Carolina’s heart.

ND can’t get a bye according to the rules. They likely join the ACC soon and we have the big 4 as SEC, B1G, ACC, and Big 12.

So wins and SOS be damned? The committee could put them at 9 so they can’t host and punish them for not being in a conference.

Tell us that you have absolutely no clue about the rules, without actually saying that.

Why should they? There is nothing about being in the ACC that is in their best interests.

Bama has a win over USC and the tie breakers. USC is 8th in the SEC. They were not getting in ahead of Bama and Ole Miss.

Honestly this is the correct answer.

Clemson beats SMU I don’t think Bama gets in at all
