If SEC stays at 8 conference games, what annual games go away?

We’re on the precipice of Indiana at 11-1 with no quality wins getting in the playoff over a much better 2 loss SEC team. If that happens there’s really no justification for the SEC to go to 9 conference games.

In that event, some annual
games will have to go away to get a full rotation every 4 years as the conference has said it wants to to do.

For example, come 2026 will Alabama play Auburn or Tennessee.

If this happens they all need to go away and rotate schedule every year. You can’t keep some rivalries and do away with others. Just lose them all together as an annual event

that doesn’t really work either because you have 15 opponents to rotate through an 8 game schedule. Need to have 1 permanent and 7 rotating home and home every 4 years.

Let's all swap Mercer and Furman around and wait for the playoffs.

Definitely Staying

Alabama-Auburn

Georgia-Florida

State-Ole Miss

Texas-Texas A&M

Tennessee-Vanderbilt

Remainder Possibilities

Oklahoma-Missouri

LSU-Arkansas

South Carolina-Kentucky

I've lost the desire to argue about Alabama/Tennessee anymore. Whatever. It's the NFL now.

Nope. Texas will play OU as their permanent opponent.

We could play a 3-3-2

3 P Opponents (play every year)
3 X Opponents (play 6x every 12 years)
3 Y Opponents (play 4x every 12 years)

Example Alabama Schedule
P1: Auburn
P2: Tennessee
P3: Miss State

X1: LSU or Ole Miss
X2: Florida or Georgia
X3: Kentucky or Vanderbilt

Y1: Texas or Oklahoma or Texas A&M
Y2: S Carolina or Arkansas or Missouri

6 games vs Original 10
2 games vs Expansion Teams

I assume it would work all the way down the line. Then we move to a 9 game schedule, everything stays the same but you add an extra game for the Y Opponents so that you play them 6x in 12 years.

Y1: Texas or Oklahoma
Y2: Texas A&M or Missouri
Y3: Arkansas or S Carolina

I'm hoping there is a way to keep COMO West vs COSC East .....the games have been pretty entertaining, the game last week was crazy as hell.

We can do a full rotation in 6 years & KEEP ALL annual games.

WHY isn’t that option available?

WHY would you NOT play the other teams the same amount?
That’s not balanced either.

if we stay at 8 conference games there will only be 1 permanent opponent.

So two fo the greatest football rivalries in CFB hsitory, UGA/Auburn and Bama/Tennessee, will go bye bye. But don't worry! This will pave the way for more Vandy/Oklahoma or Texas/Kentucky matchups, just what everyone wants.

Thanks expansion.

As I put in another post, ALL rivalries/perm games could be kept with a 6 year rotation.

Not to get into it:
Y1/4: 6 perm. & Rotating Group of 3 A
Y2/5: 6 perm. & Rotating Group of 3 B
Y3/6: 6 perm. & Rotating Group of 3 C

I hope that the price of losing nothing is adding 2 years to the rotation.
This also gives a 9 game schedule.
