Richard Young needs more carries

I like the way Young runs the ball. He runs hard/angry and has a little wiggle. I’m sure some heads will explode I’d give him some of Justice Haynes carries. Not ALL of Haynes carries but at least some.
I don’t know if Haynes is hurt or afraid of getting hurt but other than that one run he had two weeks ago, he’s just not the same guy as last year.
We need more/better production from the RBs. Maybe getting Young some carries might help?

short legs and not a whole lot of break away speed from my view on the couch. A great RB for sure but not better than the two ahead of him

Definitely a good short yardage option. Miller and Haynes are more open field guys.

Go back and watch the USC or Tennessee games.
Focus on the read option plays.
Pause the feed at the point where Milroe makes his read and tell me whether you think Miller and Haynes get the ball when they’re supposed to based on what the defender is doing.
IMO they’re being put in poor situations because Milroe either doesn’t know or he doesn’t care how the defense plays the option.
His athleticism is such that he can often beat a defender to an edge or seam, but it’s usually not because he’s taking advantage of a schematic advantage. It reminds me of watching pop Warner football where one team has the super fast RB who just beats everyone to the edge and scores every couple plays.
To me it was part of what made things so hard on LSU. They were outmatched in the front seven and instead of going heavy read option we just went power designed QB run and used the RBs as FBs. This let Milroe skip the hesitation and decision making involved with the option, plant and go.

Great post. Absolutely spot on. He can get away with that stuff against bad defenses. But he won’t be able to against the teams coming up. Oklahoma and Auburn have very good defenses who are well coached. I’m interested to see how DeBoer handles it.

Two weeks ago my buddy said i need to start looking for Richard Young.
He thinks he gonna be a beast. Not the fastest open field guy but a damn hard runner with the right twitch/strength ratio.
I believe he was hurt early on, but is now healthy.

Yes, he had a high ankle sprain against Wisconsin. He’s just now getting back to form. He’s got that Eddie Lacy look to him. Maybe not as heavy but definitely more of a hammer than the other two backs.

To follow up on this post, I would love to see Jam Miller and Richard Young get more carries going forward. Haynes has not been overly impressive to this point. His one highlight was the run against Missouri.

Haynes didn't do anything last year except a couple runs vs. Michigan. He's been under whelming IMO.

Agreed. I’m also surprised that the staff hasn’t used Kendrick Law more. I also liked the burst that I saw from Kevin Riley yesterday.

Young is gonna be a good one. He runs like it’s the last carry he’ll ever get. Reminds me of Cadillac in that way.

Kendrick Law
I'd like to see him come out of the back field. Have Milroe flanked by Jam & KLaw.
KLaw needs more touches. He'd be dangerous on swing passes, RB screens, and that stick/arrow route.
He's also pound for pound the best blocker on the offensive side of the ball. He'd be great against the blitz.

Agreed. It’s mystifying as to how he isn’t getting more touches.

I noticed yesterday that Caleb Odom started opposite of Ryan and Germie. Law didn’t come in until the second quarter. Henderson also did not play any at wide receiver that I can remember. Odom looks the part but hasn’t had a reception recently that I can remember. Hopefully that will change.

Odom caught two in the game yesterday.

Odom had a couple of penalties yesterday, IIRC.

The problem is getting the ball to Law more is that would usually mean Ryan Williams blocking for him. That's not as effective as having Law block for Williams.

I don't know why Law doesn't get more passes thrown to him. Slants to Law would be unstoppable, you know, if our QB could see and complete them.

Law dropped a pass thrown right to him against LSU. I think that he needs to be used more on speed sweeps and direct hand offs.
