You lose an on campus playoff game.
We finish 10-2 without the championship game and we almost certainly host. Now winning the championship gives you a bye, but if you lose it you are either out or on the road in the first round.

And you run the risk of injuries as well.

In the end it's a wash.

Either way we get a bye and either way we play a 13th game before the quarterfinals.

I initially was on the don't make the SECCG fence, but I've changed my position.

Winning championships matter.

I will be very curious to see how the committee handles CG losers, especially if it happens to be 10-3 Bama

Although a first round bye sounds cool too, we can work on a home playoff game next season

Shoot, I'll take more hardware. Especially after this season with the early setbacks and how everyone was talking about how Bama was done. Deboer has these guys playing ball.

The first round bye isn’t like a normal season bye week. You won’t know for a certainty who you are playing until a week in, so you can’t devote 100% planning for a full 2 weeks to one team.

I also think it’s very likely that you lose a playoff spot all together if you lose the championship game with a 3rd loss. A 3 loss Alabama is probably not getting in the playoffs over another 2 loss team. It’s too big of a risk. I’d take a home playoff game over the bye.

If scared go buy a dog. You can bet the players want the SEC crown. We are going to win the whole thing!

Doesn't matter, Alabama will win the SEC Championship Game this year and get that bye.

I would rather play Miami or Indiana at home than Texas in Atlanta, with the legit change we get knocked out entirely with a loss.

Is there any way we can decline this game? I hate that CFB, and the SEC for that matter, has forced us into this scenario

It's weird people think playing a home playoff game is better than winning the SEC and getting to rest for almost a month

Like we can't get injuries or lose at home.

Like having a two week break wouldn't be something those teams would complain about versus a 4-week break from the conference winners

You're seriously underestimating the potential for getting left out if we lose the SECCG. This is the same committee that sent 1 loss teams to CFP over 2-loss conference champions multiple times. Unless they've completely changed how they look at things, any 3 loss team is probably getting left out this year

Hosting a game would be great for the local economy through

Hopefully our players aren’t as much of a coward as you.

This is the biggest problem with the system. You're punished financially for succeeding.

If you can’t win the SECCG, you aren’t winning the title anyhow so that’s not a concern.

Don’t be afraid.

2021 Georgia has entered the chat.

2021 Georgia wasn’t part of a 12 team playoff where the they had to win 4 straight after losing the SECCG.

If you aren’t good enough to win that game and get the bye, you’re not going to be good enough to run that table.

Sagarin has Alabama as the #1 team by its metrics. If Alabama wins out, wins in line with expectations set by recent weeks, but doesn't make the SECCG, they will still be one of the most highly ranked teams according to any metric that may be on the table for the committee to look at while making the bracket.

Alabama just needs to focus on winning the next two games. I think they'd even be in the field with a competitive loss in the SECCG but it will likely push them down to the first round road game range.

I think people are downplaying how loaded the At-Large field is about to be

Georgia
Penn State
Ole Miss
Tennessee
Potentially Texas and/or Ohio State

A bye out of that is incredibly valuable

I'm not playing in it....call it whatever you want...to me it's just good business!!! Crystal Clear!!
Edited to say...if I have a guarantee in writing saying a loss will not be held against me, then yeah, I'll play
