I've said this before, I'll say it again about our fanbase...

While I'm also frustrated with the results, we really need to ride this out. This is a REAL rebuild.
People saying Hugh can't coach or win... Hugh & Charles Kelly are the ONLY people in the football office that have won on the SEC level. And sometimes you have to tear it all the way down to the studs. The only coach that did that was Coach Dye. Other Auburn coaches build on something else that didn't work and can't sustain success.
Tater Tot didn't because he went 11-0 with Coach Dye's talent. Didn't recruit and ran it into the ground.
Tubs didn't recruit hard because Bama was on probation, lived off beating them for 6 years in a row and 2004 team. Stopped trying after 2006 and got ran.
Chizik got Cam in 2010 and won it all... and it was all downhill from there.
Gus flukes around and made it to the Natty in year 1 and never did anything else. 8 win bandit, beat Bama a couple of times. THATS IT.
Harsin ran Bo off and refused to recruit P5 talent.
Have I been upset about the losses? YES.
Have I not liked the lack of touches for Cowboy? YES.
Have I been angered by Thorne? YES.
Do I see the BIGGER PICTURE Tho? YES.
The bigger picture is consistent 10 win seasons with extreme talent at the expense of a couple of bad seasons... and thats fine with me. Thats why most people don't have success in life, because they can't push through the bad for the great down the line. Instead they give up early and start the same cycle over and over... sound familiar?
This is a MAJOR rebuild. And I'm sorry, you don't fire a guy in year 2 who had a top 10 class, has another 2 top 5 classes on deck. Especially seeing that outside maybe 3-4 players... the best players are freshmen and sophomores. Patience is paramount.

Yeah it's a rebuild to an extent.
Yeah we don't fire the guy in year two
HOWEVER year two should show improvements on the field and better GameDay decisions from the coaching staff
That's my frustration. We keep doing the same shite that doesn't work. That's the definition of insanity.

I can't say it hasn't though... It just hasn't shown wins.
Remember, the HC is in Year 2
The OC is in Year 1. The DC is in Year 1
Jarquez has already surpassed his yards total from 2023
KLS has had a better season than any WR in 2023
Even Thorne has STATISTICALLY been better than 2023
The Defense, playing A LOT of TF, is better than 2023
Improvement isn't always wins...

Exactly, also he takes no responsibility. At least that is what it seems to me.

Oh, I'm riding it out, but that doesn't mean I'm not complaining about it.

It’s a massive rebuild, no ifs, ands, or buts about it. We are missing an entire recruiting class that Hugh had to piece together with transfers, and we weren’t going to be getting the top picks. That would be hard for any team to do. Pile on top of that, our roster already had massive holes in it from poor recruiting strategies from Gus and then Harsin’s just lack of recruiting.
I’m as upset about the season as anyone, but I’ve also watched us just fail at executing when the coaches put the guys into the right positions. We’ve made some very dumb calls as well and boneheaded things from the staff. Not excusing them at all. However, the amount of plays I’ve watched is stare down covered receivers while wide open guys are elsewhere on the field, and then force a throw that gets picked or take a sack, has been maddening. Yes everything eventually falls onto the coaching staff, but we’ve seen two staffs now not be able to get Thorne to break that issue and see the field. Unfortunately it’s just what he is and we have to deal with it.

Freeze has another year.
But let's stop acting like Auburn hasn't been in a talent hole before or that we have absolutely no SEC level players. Peyton Thorne had a good resume at a P5 school coming in. Hunter is a top level back. We have a collection of receivers at least on par with middle of the pack SEC. Our line is bad, but many of the teams we've lost too are also struggling on the lines.
Rebuilds are not 6-10 year affairs, especially in the current era of this game. When the portal opens up after this season, a lot of this talent is going to look for healthier situations and that's going to happen every year. When we go looking for the starting QB Freeze still doesn't have, we'll be fighting a lot of teams and their money for one. You have to show improvement on the field, not get beat 4 times on your home field by the likes of a 4-4 Cal team (who is FSU's only win), a 5-4 Arkansas team, a banged up 5-4 Oklahoma and Vandy. We look like a team with zero offensive identity. We have a coach who looks confused and lost in his press conferences. The ONLY positive with Freeze is his recruiting and if he isn't able to show some end result on the field next season, I don't see how he isn't fired. He isn't getting 6-10 years to figure it out and he wasn't a good enough hire to earn more than 3, honestly. Harsin was a better coach on gamedays, despite his general idiocy, otherwise.

What sucks is we are a 5-3 or 6-2 team right now with McPherson and Thorne/Hank not throwing just an insane amount of picks in two games.
Again, they happened, no getting around it. We failed in crunch time of games and show ourselves in the foot. I think that is kind of the OP’s point though. We really are a lot closer than things appear. Statistically that rings true too. Still a long ways to go to get to where we want to be, and we need a massive improvement still offensively, defense has been carrying us, but taking a step back, a lot of the positive signs are there.

6000 yards and nearly 50 TDs is a good resume, stat-wise. It doesn't make him a great QB, but if you think he's the entirety of why our offense sucks, get ready to be long-term disappointed.

I think it is totally reasonable for Auburn fans to blast a head coach that can't even match the progress the Vanderbilt program has made in the same length of time.

This is not his second year coaching, though. And the mistakes he is making are not mistakes from a veteran coach. If we were losing the teams that were more talented to us, I would not be so hard on him. But when you're losing to almost everyone, you play who is less talented than you, that is a different issue.
Rebuilding is one thing, we are basically just losing right now. We are not building anything when the coach cannot coach the talent that he has on his roster. More talent will not make him a better coach or make better decisions. It may cover up some of his inadequacies, but that does not help us at all.

I bet you a dime to a dollar that Vandy is back to being Vandy this time next year....

Without the transfer portal there was a clear upward trajectory for Dye over the first two years. Hugh has gone the other way.
You typed a lot to say nothing. Hugh is recruiting incredible. His actual preparation and coaching has been downright atrocious.
I'm not saying fire him but he's sucked all on his own and it's time to stop blaming everyone else.

Again... I'll take being 4-8 to go to 9-3/10-2/11-1 the next 10 years... I think he's building it right.
Vandy will go 8-4 this year with those 1-year rentals, then back to 3-9/2-10.. So let them enjoy 2024

You are literally torpedoing your own attempted point.
If you say all of these things (the defense is better, RB has more yards, #1 WR is way better, etc, etc) and yet you are on pace to win 2+ fewer games than the season before, then the only explanation is that you have been OUT COACHED (it can't be "bad luck" over a full season). When the opposing team wins with 100+ fewer offensive yards, they did so by out coaching you. That's how that works.
The only goal that matters is winning the game. So your claim that we are somehow "improving" but yet finding ways to win even fewer games is a complete oxymoron.
