After Alabama took its second loss of the season Saturday, an attempt is being made this week to tighten up the ship.
Tight end CJ Dippre said there is an emphasis on, "just tak[ing] pride in the small things," and elaborated on what that means around the facility.
"We got to just kind of take details and the small things," the senior said Tuesday. "Don't get bored with the basics. Get back to what we're supposed to wear -- shirts tucked in, five minutes, 10 minutes early to meetings. Not all this late stuff. Not doing what you want to do.
"Just little things like that carry over to the football field. Because then if you take one wrong step, one wrong thing, it just all carries over. So you got to act everything, all throughout the day. Going to class on time. Everything is like would want to do on the football field."
Alabama has been sliding on the field since the second quarter of the Georgia game Sept. 28, and has lost two games before November for the first time since 2007. Alabama has the seventh-most penalty yards per game (78.3) of any FBS team.
"[Coach Kalen DeBoer] knows that we have to do better," wide receiver Germie Bernard said Tuesday. "He's just gonna continue to instill in us the things that we need to do to be better, and to be better in practice. Be better off the field. Be more disciplined with the things we need off the field, like just making sure we're checking in on time, making sure we're getting to meetings on time. Things like that. With the mindset that he has, our team -- we still have everything in front of us that we want. I think we will accomplish that."
Bernard provided some more examples of what those "small things" are that Dippre mentioned. "Just be more disciplined in practice," Bernard said. "Hone in on the small details within the playbook. Word hard, executing. The off the field work, just continuing to lift hard, continue to recover right, continue to hydrate right. Continue to put the right things in your body with nutrition. When he talks about those things, those are the key components that we have to hone in on to be better."
This ain’t going to be a good look for Kalen as folks are on his arse about accountability. Looks like players are holding themselves more accountable than him.

This *should be* unbelievable, however, I 1,000% believe this is reality and not hyperbole. CKD doesn’t need to be Nick Saban but he absolutely must demand more of these guys, and if they don’t want to fall in line, then get rid of them. This is inexcusable at such a basic level. If you can’t be on time, what the frick CAN you do? No shite you can’t have success on gameday if you can’t do something as simple as show up to a meeting on time. I know none of these kids have to take a city bus or walk to get anywhere on campus - they’ve made it abundantly clear that they’re “ballin” with all the NIL, chains, grills, cars, etc. There is no excuse for this. Pitiful.

Maybe it is being addressed ?
Might possibly see new faces get more PT. We shall see if he gets a hold of the problem

It's nitpicking to think these guys should maybe give a damn about being on time?

Maybe. I hope so. But the fact that we are going into Week 9 of the season and this is now being brought into light is more than concerning. This season feels like and reminds me of grade school when a teacher was out for the day and the substitute came in and everyone in the class tried to walk all over the sub and fricked around the entire period.

That is F embarrassing. You pay them and then have to kiss their arse to do their jobs.

Could be. Hard to read too much into it bc it may have been in the last couple weeks since the UGA game and everyone told them how good they were . Either way , time to make a stand with a problem player if there is one and get their attention

I believe DeBoer has been pretty open about the fact that he expects the players to provide a lot of their own accountability. That's the type team he wants. So maybe this is actually the light starting to go on. I'll cross my fingers and hope so, anyway.

I guess it's possible the win vs UGA was the worst thing that could have happened to Bama and perhaps the best thing that could have happened to UGA

I think Kalen is used to a player led team being able to carry him through weaker conferences because as a brain trust, his staff has usually been able to out scheme the majority of his opponents. This has allowed a majority of players if they have good leadership (which this team does not) to take them through the season and stay competitive because of all the advantages they have as an overall program.
However, this is the SEC. The top of the top and all the teams have access to the best of the best. Player led will only get you so far with top tier talent. These are 18-21 year old coaches. They do not have the years of experience these coaches have in planning and team building.

Didn’t Saban want a player lead team too? He always had a player council to advise him on things and to help with discipline I thought ?

I would say that Saban's definition of "player-led" and DeBoer's definition are probably very different from one another.

Maybe we should just focus on finding a qb.

Kalen needs to have a PC at the Oasis in Cottondale. We'll ask some questions that the group will not ask.
Tucking in the shirts will not be on our list just saying.

You are right there . It also tells me we have problems/attitudes ( we all knew that) on this team . Saban alluded to that after our loss to UM last year . KDB. Has got to get his point across or get them out of there
As an educator , you encourage what you tolerate …and the bench is one of the best teaching tools there is for players

It’s possible CKD and his staff got overly “players coach” on the guys so they wouldn’t leave.
That could be it. I’m actually praying that is it.
Letting them get away with BS, like being late for meetings, would never fly likewise.

Good thing they waited until after 7 games to address this

Agree. For a while I thought we might be in trouble.

Dipree is one of the good guys. We have a serious issue in the locker room. We are going to start losing guys.
