Why does Sheridan refuse to stick to the run?

I loved that Jam finally was the starter Saturday. Justice hasn't had that same explosiveness and vision this year so far and Jam has looked really good with limited carries. I just don't understand why Sheridan will not run the ball two times in a row. I lost count how many times we would run the ball on 1st down and then 2nd down was automatically a pass. It felt like we were getting some movement too on their DL. Huepel showed what happens when you stick to the run.. Sampson had 26 carries and it felt like at least half of them went for only a yard or two, but he stuck with it and Sampson was able to pop some explosive runs. I dont care if the QB is Milroe, Simpson, or whoever... we dont need to throw the ball 45 times in a game that we were leading for basically 3 of the 4 quarters.

They asked him today about the jump shots taken by RW and GB. He said something like....
"We coach everything on the field."
Folks are going to have a field day with that quote.
With that being said; I don't put all the blame on Sheridan for the play calling. I think there were a TON of open plays for Jalen to make but he didn't. With that being said; Sheridan kept force feeding Jalen to make the plays when he should have started to run (although they stacked the box). He should have ran more and called more screens (WR/RB) IMO.

Jam also went out and the running isn’t the same without him in. When we ran 7 times in a row we blistered UT. Then Jam went out. End of story.

100%. He deserves credit for that, but as an OC I would expect him to take the ball out of his hands at that point because the last two drives were the only drives that we truly had to throw the ball. I just think Jam is one of the best players we have on offense, and the OC has to do a better job of feeding him. There is no reason why he should only have 12 carries in a game like that.

Even then it was weird play calling. 7 straight runs and then 7 straight pass.
With that being said; we do have a lot of RPO type plays in the playbook and execution is dependent on the QB.

I dont think that tells the entire story.. but he also could get more creative to help get numbers sometimes. I just think he needs to stick with it more, and not throw it every single 2nd down after getting 4 on first time by running the ball.

I think it is because we have a problem on 1st and 10 pass plays that often get us into 2nd and 10+. Analytics say that 2nd and 10+ run is the worst 2nd down play call option most of the time. So they're probably about to call a pass again unless they find a really good look to check to run.
We have an offensive scheme that really prioritizes looking for deep shots in the passing game and a 2nd year starter who was afflicted with holding onto the ball searching for deep shots last season. Teams are doing a better job of taking away the shots and Milroe has done a poor job of coming off them and making good throws to the intermediate to short routes in the play call. Milroe has actually improved a little bit at coming off the deep shots but he has not improved at intermediate to short throwing.
I think the argument that QB play has affected the run game negatively is warranted. We call a lot of QB runs in situations where we need a few yards and get our offense into situations where giving the tailbacks touches is statistically a wasted play.

Probably because he was stupid enough to think that Milroe could hit all those wide open targets he evidently "couldn't see".

He seemed to have gotten significantly better up until the last 2 games, which now it looks like he is even worse than last year. He was executing short, intermediate, check-down throws beautifully against UGA, in the first half at least, but now its like he has completely regressed to old Jalen.

Then the coaches need to change the scheme to match the players we have. It's just asinine to not do that.

I don’t know if Haynes is dinged but he doesn’t look anything like he did against UM in the CFP last year. Zero burst, not very physical.

For those wondering about the original question above, I think you need to place the answer to it squarely where it belongs. On the HEAD COACH. Passing the ball is what you're gonna get with him.
The Washington Huskies passed on 59.4% of their plays in 2023. You can't place an exact number on this because a handful of these are always gonna be on plays where the QB scrambles while being pressured.
Anyone care to hazard a guess on the NFL team that has the highest percentage of passing plays in 2024? If you answered the Seattle Seahawks, you get the gold star. Most of you know who their OC is this season.
Enough said.
