I keep seeing these type posts….so posters on tRant were “warned” about how Texas would be. I have a question. What exactly could/should we (rant posters) have done differently?

They were just warning you about texas cheating ways. They pay the refs and are arrogant about it.

Actually, A&M tried to warn the conference about this and was left in the dark as Snakey negotiated for his team to enter the SEC. Snakey had an agenda, and it wouldn't matter what the evidence showed.

We were warned UT would give Bama a run when it comes to rigging games.

Being a fan that has paid attention to CFB for four decades now, I am not surprised at all.

Sankeys agenda is money. Nothing more, nothing less. It's simultaneously terrible and Great for the conference.

A&M fans should have warned Sankey instead of random posters on SEC Rant. We don't make those decisions, he did.

You seem reasonable.

The people who replied well I'm wondering how much rent they think I owe for taking up all the space in their tiny arse heads

It was a promise that was made when we joined the conference that they wouldn’t be admitted.

Shame on us for being stupid enough to believe that Sankey would uphold Slive’s handshake agreement.

Kirby was right about the hold but it didn't matter.

Texas fans trashed the field much like Neyland but were then rewarded with an overturn

Now we know that the only differences between Texas and Tennessee fans are that the Texas orange is burnt and they don't throw mustard jars because they are not into corn dogs.

Nothing … apart from perhaps being more vocal in protest when the initial rumors began.

Public opinion does matter, and had fans shown to be overwhelmingly averse to accepting UTex’s application to the SEC, more purposeful and consequential conversations may have occurred.

But even that’s highly unlikely to have moved the needle.

Bottom line: Greg Sankey was/is responsible, and his sole foci were: (1) Financial growth (e.g., securing better terms in negotiations w broadcast partners; more exposure in the Midwest and Southwest); and (2) Staying ahead of conference realignment trends. He thought allowing UTex (and OU) into the mix was a proactive step that would keep the SEC the most dominant and influential conference amidst the inevitable realignment changes.

Unlike Mike Slive who was big on protecting the SEC culture, Sankey didn’t consider the potential negative intangibles

Warned him before we found out?????

this was a tight secret, behind closed doors.

EXACTLY how they operate, and 180 degrees from the way Slive ran things.

My point is, why warn posters on a fan site about something they have zero control or influence over.

Texas arrogance and corruption was the top reason behind Arkansas leaving the SWC. That, and the SWC was falling apart.
