This team felt like a fraud from the start

The hallmarks of a legit championship contender have always been strong team leadership, a good defense, and great QB play. You simply can’t win a title without a combination of those three.
This team has felt like it was lacking in all three areas, but there was enough window dressing to cover it up, until we ran into brick wall and the facade was torn down.
Strong team leadership: There were warning signs, particularly against USF, and the second half of the Georgia game. No one, not the coaches, not the players, got these guys motivated to man up and take back control of the game. Malachi Moore’s hissy fit at the end of the Vandy game tells you all you need to know about the culture of this team. They’re charmin soft.
Good defense: The secondary is trash. The linebackers are lost. Jihaad Campbell is not an SEC-caliber LB. The tackling is atrocious. Attempting to punch the ball out instead of actually bringing the guy to the ground is a losing move. I’m not sure what’s to blame more, the scheme or the players, but our defense isn’t good. The fact that Vandy converted every single important third down ought to tell you something. Georgia’s fourth down conversions say the same thing: the defense has no chest.
Great QB play: Milroe is fine. He’s not as bad as some on here think, but he’s not great either. His decision making ability is lacking, and he’s fast but easy to bring down. He has a tendency to hero-ball, and has been bailed out on some inaccurate passes by great WR play. He’s probably a better passer than Jalen Hurts, but not as good running.
The signs were there that Bama wasn’t legit. Penalties, the offense disappearing for long stretches, the defensive lapses. The explosiveness of the offense was covering a multitude of problems that all came to light yesterday in humiliating fashion.
Here’s the deal: it’s all out there now. The mask has been torn off. The warts, deficiencies, everything is out in the open. Where do you go from here? One thing about a loss like this; it can galvanize a team, cause them to take a hard look in the mirror and make the needed adjustments in preparation and attitude, and actually turn them into a good team. Or it can have the opposite effect, and they lock into repeating the same mistakes again and again because “you don’t know our team like we do, these guys bring it every day, LANK” and so on…
They were frauds. Not anymore. We know who they are now, I really hope they do too.

Some of ours fans weren’t around for the numerous trips to Shreveport and it shows.

Spot on assessment but how do you fix the defense?

Milroe didn't lose that game yesterday
That belongs squarely on the coaches

I’ve been a Bama fan since the early 90s, when I was old enough to know what a football was, bro.
If you have an argument against anything I said, feel free to share it.

Debatable.

By scoring more points than the defense allows.

It’s a lot of bitching because Alabama lost. Winning cures all and the side of our fans that persists when Alabama loses is one of the most embarrassing looks in all of sports.
This team either wakes up and rebounds or they go 8-4 with a bowl game in Jacksonville. Let it play out and settle the frick down.

I agree. He also didn’t win it, though. I don’t really blame him for the fumble, but the pass across the line of scrimmage was rough.
That being said, we absolutely should win any game where we score 35 points.

Even when Bama was losing to Louisiana Tech, we were beating Vandy by 20…
Which is basically what I said at the end, but thanks for chiming in.

My college years were DuBose, Fran, & Shula.
So nice try

I guess we could say this was Milroe’s worst game. He threw for 310 yards on 75% completion with a 188 QB rating. Hell of a stat line for a “bad” game. He led the team to 35 points. He did more than enough to win.

His mistakes hurt. Pick 6, fumble, had a first down running but threw the ball past the LOS making us punt, ...

That's not the first time either. I think he did that last season too.

You are far too old to be this reactionary then

Yea but just like in the Rose Bowl if Milroe doesn't fumble .. do we lose either game?

The guy is throwing missiles to all parts of the field on time to their numbers. He was amazing yesterday.
He’s close to being the absolute no questions asked best QB in the country.

Bama football is not dead like folks are making it out to be in these over-reactionary posts. There will be a number of posts that folks will have to eat.
To be clear, I think we have problems and flaws that need to be addressed. No hiding that. I posted after the UGA win that we have problems with in-game coaching.

Yeah and I still see this as getting your bearings kinda thing. I think the coaching staff had an idea for the defense which was to limit big plays, force the other team to go on long drives and wait for them to make mistakes. In theory, its a good plan. Against certain kinds of teams it will work much better.
If you are a new coach, you set a plan, you convey it to your players and you want to show confidence in it. Throwing out your gameplan at the first signs of failure shows that you dont have confidence in it.
Weve seen now that in certain situations it works...but in certain situations, the team is gonna have to deviate from the plan.
You have to give people room to make mistakes, learn from them and improve. Thankfully Finebaum caller kind of reactionary people arent the decision makers
