Correct. Everyone can cheat at recruiting like they have done for years with NIL. It has eliminated the unfair advantage that they have exploited for years.
Bama is just like everyone else now and this blowout loss to an unranked team proves it.

I have noticed people pretending Alabama hasn’t had recent multi year stretches with absolutely putrid defense.

I don’t think Saban in his prime would have as much success today as he did 07-23. The portal and NIL have changed the game. You can argue whether that is good or bad, but it has changed.
If not for the portal, Pavia doesn’t go to Vandy and Vandy doesn’t beat Alabama yesterday. If not for the portal, Rogers doesn’t go to Washington and Washington doesn’t beat Michigan yesterday. Managing rosters has become as important as actually coaching.
I have no idea how you truly motivate or discipline players today.
