Gus Malzahn - Would You Hire Him for Your Team?

I didn't really follow Malzahn when he coached at Auburn. I know he had better than average success and that he didn't take the opportunity to move back to Arkansas when there was a vacancy.
He's currently at UCF. Would there be any reason to not hire him, assuming you don't already have a better program like AL or GA?

Fired retreads have never been successful in this conference.

Ngl, I was glad to see him go.
Thank you, Auburn. He'd probably have a 3 game win streak over Bama right now.

His offenses were always tough to prepare for but I think he’s run his course in the sec

Here are a few:
Gus was just a double digit favorite at home and got blown out.
Gus finished no better than 5th in the SEC recruiting (would be 7th if you factor in UT and OU) during his time at Auburn.
Gus never won in Tuscaloosa Athens or BR.
Gus lost 4+ games 7/8 years as AUs HC

Malzahn, Freeze, Kiffin... why do schools continue batting around the same clown car of coaches? I don't get it.

No, but he was perfect for Auburn, and I don't want to see him back.
His coaching performance was as schizophrenic as the Auburn football program. He shite the bed frequently, but he also played for the NC once and went 3-5 against Saban. How the frick does that even happen? Kirby is the current best coach in football and he went 1-5 against Saban.
He'd be a good hire for Arkansas or Ole Miss. He'd make it to the SECCG at least once, and maybe even a playoff before he got fired for back to back losses to 4-8 MSU teams.

Been there, done that, still rebuilding the OL.
(edit) He was 8-17 against our 5 main rivals.

Remember the old business adage, “If everything is a priority then nothing is a priority.”
If you have “5 main rivals”, what are you really saying?

Well, we may have 2 teams on our rivalry list, but what does it mean when we are on the list of at least 20 others?

One of these is not like the other.

Gus was going to take the job at Arkansas after 2017 until he beat Bama in the Iron Bowl and wound up in the SECCG. Then he played Auburn against our open HC position for his massive raise and buyout.
So instead of us getting him, he talked the dumb fricks in charge of our program into hiring one of his disciples, Chad Morris.
For the record, I hated the thought of Gus at Arkansas. But in hindsight, he wouldn't have put us in the hole that we are in now.

Texas was trying to get Mitch Mustain, so I guess I find the subject of Malzahn, the Springdale 5, and Houston Nutt interesting reading.

Gus could have had more success if he had become more of a CEO coach when his offense lost its effectiveness. I guess play callers like that rarely make that change though. I think he'd be a solid hire for UF but doubt either party would be that interested.

UF, Tenn, LSU, UGA, and uat. Before the conference split, we played all but LSU every year just for about forever.
Amen corner was UF, UGA, directional school, uat.

Yes, He knew how to beat Saban, and can be a tricky guy to prepare a game plan!
