It was ruled a touchdown on the field.
There is supposed to be clear, irrefutable video evidence to overturn a call. That is what they tell us.
The fact there are multiple threads on it and opinions are all over the place makes it pretty clear there was not clear, irrefutable evidence.
The call on the field should have stood. It was called a touchdown, it should have stayed a touchdown. If it had been ruled incomplete or an interception, it should have remained incomplete or an interception. They showed nothing on the TV that should have overturned the call on the field.

This Miami fan is upset people know that the ACC office bailed them out.
VT scored a touchdown as time expired to win. The receiver had the ball and was down. A Miami player laying half out of bounds knocked the ball out of the VT receiver’s hands after he was already down.
Refs ruled a TD on the field. The ACC office called and had them overturn the TD to preserve Miami’s undefeated season.

I'd say in the third and fourth frame, but I'd be open to a decision of "just can't tell" in which case the requisite evidence to overturn does not exist. You can't look at those blurry frames and tell me "definitely not" or more precisely "clear and obvious evidence" that there was no firm control, in which case you can't overturn a ruling on the field. Remember, the replay official isn't tasked with determining affirmatively IF there was "firm control" he is tasked with determining that there was NOT in this situation.

You're proving exactly why the call on the field should have stood. You know that, right?
In this case they didnt have to show proof of firm control. They had to show proof there WASN'T. Which by looking at all the screenshots and time you wasted, is impossible (as you implied). Therefore the call on the field stands.

No. They looked at it, realized he CLEARLY at no point had anything resembling possession, and overturned the bad call on the field. It's what replay was made for.
That said, screw Miami. Hopefully they lose out.

So let me get this straight....
You're saying that those images you posted in the OP show anything CLEARLY? That is what you are arguing?

That is what he seems to be saying. I have seen the still shots and the videos and it is hard to tell exactly what is happening. There is no way it is clear enough to overturn. Just like on a goal line TD review when you can’t see the ball carrier, not to mention the ball, amongst all the linemen you have to go with the call on the field.
I am not sure if he had complete control of the ball. He may have, he may not have. You can’t tell. That is why the call stands. Or it should have.

The replay clearly showed it coming out of his hands when his butt hit the ground. You have to maintain possession through the ground. Plus a Miami defender touched the ball while out of bounds.
It was pretty clearly an incomplete pass from the replays.

And being the only one in the frame with this particular quality, it is an automatic +4 in OT rating.

Was it the ACC office that had the call changed or ESPN? I get the feeling the 12 teams for the playoff have already been picked.

Would be ruled a touchdown had the Hokies been ranked.

She gets bonus points for the word “firm” being used in the title
