Helene expected to maintain possible Cat 1 storm status as it passes over the sprawling Atlanta metro; Athens to be similarly affected.

Helene is @105mph as of latest update 11am Eastern time.

Do people in Atlanta really believe they are going to get hit by a hurricane?

If you're gonna do a weather post, at least follow the rules...

Weather channel bias. They think the world revolves around Atlanta.

It had been years since I had been down there, so I spent a couple nights in the big bend in April. Stayed in Crystal River one night and made my way to Apalachicola, just sight seeing along the way through Yankeetown, Steinhatchee, Keaton Beach. Stayed in Apalachicola and explored Panacea, St. George Island, Port St. Joe. I am glad I did, most of those places are going to look very different after tomorrow.

We're "teleworking" tomorrow. If we lose network access we're allowed to take non-chargable leave.

I'll have my VPN on and log into some training, put my laptop in Presentation mode, and may or may not be at the cabin near Dalton.

Anyone think this will have any impact on flights out of Charlotte (specifically to Boston) mid-morning Saturday?

This damn thing is going to be a logistical nightmare. The places that usually support the places that are hit are in the path too.

Yeah, I don't get it.

I see it says "tropical storm" when it hits Atlanta, and that ain't shite. I'll take a tropical storm over the straight line storms these areas(and basically the entire rest of the SE) get on a regular basis. The worse part of a tropical storm is the fear it will intensify, that's not going to happen over land.

The people who live on the coast where this thing lands, those are the people who need to worry and get the frick outta the way.

There is supposed to be a lot of rainfall, which obviously makes flash flooding a concern for the Atlanta area.

If I was in the Big Bend area I'd be concerned, but up here it is just going to be a lot of rain.

Yeah, they do drop a lot of rain. So I can see flooding being a big issue for prone areas.

Outside that, I prefer a tropical storm over the straight line storms.

Flooding is going to be a real problem in a lot of areas because of all the rain that’s already been brought in by this front and a lot more on the way. There will no doubt be flash flooding far away from where the hurricane makes landfall. People need not panic but they need to be aware of that and be cautious.

Don't care. I'm off tomorrow with pay.

And yes, you guys will have to buy your fries from another restaurant. Cope.

Straight line events are powerful, but brief. Hours of high sustained winds with higher gusts are a different animal. People living near the coast are aware, but folks far inland rarely see what is coming to northern Georgia.
