Schools in Georgia have legal cover to immediately begin paying their athletes directly, according to an executive order signed by the state's governor Tuesday morning.
Gov. Brian Kemp signed an order that prohibits the NCAA or athletic conferences from punishing any university or college in Georgia for "offering compensation, or compensating an intercollegiate student-athlete for the use of such student-athlete's NIL."

There is no first mover advantage bc Georgia already recruits at a high level. However, I can see Georgia teams serving as a case study for us. We get to see how you guys go about setting up the structure, how much positions make, how much underclassmen make vs upper class man. How do you pay a 5* true freshman vs a 3* starting 5th year senior.
Thank you and your state for being the first.

Pretty sure Missouri did this a year or two ago. We are ahead of the game. Basically where schools have to wait to pay till they come to the school, we can pay right when they sign.

I think this is not NIL but Georgia can have an actual roster payroll. Maybe I read it wrong.

Now we can see if it’s $20M only football, or $20M all sports.

Mizzou created a bill allowing in state HS athletes to collect NIL money if they signed with an instate school.

This assumes most other states have similar prohibitions in place.
I'll bet not every state codified this into law.

Kirby Smart has released a statement:
"Huh? Paying players wasn't legal?"
Jere Morehead's statement:
"Is it legal in Tennessee? Can I use my position with the NCAA to try and get them in trouble? Can I? Can I?"
