I was thinking about this today

Let's say Texas beats UGA in Austin but that is the only loss for both teams the rest of the way.

SECCG would be
11-1 UGA v. 12-0 UT

Let's say UGA wins the SECCG and gets the overall 1 or 2 seed. Texas would get an at large at 7 or 8.

You would see
1 UGA v. 7 UT in the National Championship
2 UGA v. 7 UT in the Quarterfinals
2 UGA v. 6 UT in the Semifinals

UGA also has Ole Miss on their regular schedule, and the same scenario applies.

Absolutely. That's something we talked about this offseason. Wondering if similar possibilities eventually weakens support for the SECCG?

Championship games should definitely be on the chopping block. The holdup, of course, is that they make quite a bit of money.

Sure. But, teams playing 3x in a season has to water down interest, right?

Not if one team wins the first 2

The only thing that might save it is that you are playing for a bye, giving it a little big of importance beyond "conference champ".

But yea, if we see repeat games from the B1G/SEC in CGG and then playoffs a few times in the first few years I'd guess there is a move to get rid of them.

I loved the idea of playing basically a playoff play-in game between your #4 and #5 teams instead that was floated last offseason.

If Texas or UGA goes 11-2 and loses 2 close games to the other they're making the playoff.

Especially with the loss of divisions.

If UGA goes undefeated and UTa and Ole Miss only have 1 loss who gets the rematch?

If UGA, Ole Miss, UTa all have 1 loss who gets in?

Will Georgia be able to field a team all season?

Wouldn't it be crazy if Georgia beat Texas twice and then lost the third meeting in the national championship game(or vice-versa?)

Technically it could happen with other teams as well obviously.

That's the problem with no divisions.

Cavemen solved this. But the SEC thinks we don't want divisions.

Ignant. We'll go back.

I think it's more likely we end up playing two or even three teams twice than one team 3x.

Good chance we have a rematch with Texas or Bama & a decent chance with Tenn & Ole Miss

Probably unpopular opinion, but I thought moving the Alabama schools to the East would have been most logical.

The Cocktail Party, DSOR, TSIO, Red River Showdown, and Iron Bowl are all safe. Florida/LSU could work it out.

Imagine the melt when the team that beat the other 2x, then loses the 3rd game in the CFPCG

That would be wild too

UGA gets TX in the regular season and SECCG but also draws Ole Miss and/or Tenn in the regular season and CFP.

Didn't even think off that.
