When Florida hired Napier, I really wonder what happened in the meeting

that made the brass go, "okay, this is our guy".....this dude has absolutely no sizzle whatsoever. (Unfortunately for OM fans).

I'm sure they were sold on all those analysts he wanted to hire. Smartest program in America - that was the promise.

After Ole Miss showed what they can do in the portal, and how complete they appear to be, why would Kiffin leave for that job at this stage? He's made this mistake before, I don't think he's leaving.

They hired him BECAUSE he had no sizzle. Same for McElwain. Who on Earth looked at goofy Butterteeth Sharkf***er and said "Thats our guy!"? UF administration. You may think Urban Meyer is a bad guy now, but back then he was a guy named after a Pope who seemed harmless. The only hire that broke trend was Mullen, but that was because the AD worked with him at Mississippi State. But even he got undermined because of his behavior long before the disastrous 2021 season.
The Florida administration of the last 25 years wouldn't have hired Spurrier. He said things that made some people upset? We shouldn't consort with such low class behavior!
The thing they care most about is being a "public ivy" and having a lofty USNWR ranking. Anything that could compromise that is a liability. I like my degree to have value, but they just go too far. I see no prospects for that changing. It is going to require a lot of very important people getting mad about football all at once for anything to change.

So you are saying they won't even try to hire Kiffin?

He said he had a process to build a great football culture.

Since Meyer, UF has tried a number of routes
1. Head coach in waiting with a great coordinator resume (no HC experience)
2. Saban tree alum, decent coordinator resume (little HC experience)
3. Experienced head coach with a great coordinator resume (good HC experience)
and went back to the Meyer well going back to
4. Young up-and-comer with success at lower levels
Meyer was a big question mark when he was hired in 2005. Nobody knew yet that his approach would work in big-time CFB.
Napier lacks a lot of what Meyer has, but also UF still has a very weak support system for NIL.

There's an undercurrent of big donors that are honestly closed down to the idea. But also UF wouldn't pay enough to get him.

When he is fired, Napier will have received nearly 50m dollars for two and a half seasons of coaching. Not to mention the amount allotted to him for his massive army of off the field staff.
Hopefully an adult in the room points out that proven coaches who can just make it to year four end up being cheaper. Throwing 7 year 52 million dollar contracts at sun belt coaches that need to be fired game 1 of season 3 isn't the money saver some people might think it is.

I don't think so either. He actually likes Oxford and has a great AD to work with and has the collective humming along nicely. He's got a big pool of analysts working for him now, use of the university planes when he wants to go on to his boat, and is able to hide away from the noise when he wants to. His daughter is at Ole Miss, his mom lives in Oxford, and his son is planning to move to Oxford next year.
It's become way more than just a job at this point.
I could be completely wrong but I just don't think that I am.

quote:We have that in common with UF, at least the admin wanting public ivy status. Having said that, our admin also realize athletics in general (and especially football) are University ambassadors and football brings in the money. It is possible to do both, Stanford was more than respectable in football for about a decade, (still vying with us for overall sports including non-revenue)not sure what they're doing in football these days though.

There was a university president from years ago, I think it was Tennessee but could be wrong, that was questioned about how much the football coach was paid compared to teachers. He answered that whether they like it or not, the football program is the front door to the university, bringing in exposure, students, and money that otherwise would not be there.

It must have been all those mostly mediocre offenses Corntooth McSharkfricker produced under Saban.

Florida had him chosen in advance. That is the wildest part. Search was over before it started.

Yeah, I think if Ole Miss gets exposed and doesn't even come close to making the playoff, things could change (assuming Florida would still want him or does want him.) I don't really see that happening though.

Billy mumbled some shite about hiring an Army and they backed up the Brinks truck, complete with a big-arse buyout.
Funny how college administrators routinely make the most stupid financial decisions.

Is stricklin on an equally hot seat? Florida athletics are good but they aren't what they once were and I don't know who he even hired that's been successful.
