So close together in the history of the AU program?

We were not a better team than New Mexico State in 2023.

Now, in 2024, we are not a better team than the Cal Bears.

What signs have there been since Freeze took over that the program has IMPROVED? Recruiting? If you recruit amazingly but still lose on the field is that a positive?

The thing is, roster-wise, we’re light years ahead of both of those teams. Hugh has talked all summer about how we upgraded our roster, but why do we look as bad, if not worse? Is anybody doing any coaching, or is everybody out recruiting all the time?

Recruiting and coaching are not the same thing.

Hugh has totally failed at coaching.

Complete failure for both his seasons.

Arky will beat us 24-10 or so and OU will beat us 60-3.

If you can’t simply look at the roster and answer your own question, I don’t know what to say.

Oh and I forgot to add in the embarrassing Maryland loss in our cheap-arse bowl game.

In our last 5 games, 4 of which were played in J-H, we are 1-4.

NMSU @ Auburn - LOSS
Bama @ Auburn - LOSS
Bowl Game vs. Maryland - LOSS
Alabama A&M @ Auburn - Win
Cal @ Auburn - LOSS

Two years in, and this still looks like a Bryan Harsin team on game day

And yet the performance on the field is the same.

I’m not expecting to run the table in year 2, just some progress at all in any area would be nice to see. We look even worse than last year, but with a highly marketed recruiting class and transfer additions.

The O gameplan was pretty sad today, IMO. We should have established the run first thing. When we did get the run game going, we would try to throw it and be behind the chains.............or worse. I see a lot of Gus in Freeze. Very narrow minded and they get tunnel vision.

I’m not going to argue with any of that.

But what’s your proposed solution?

What I would like to see is us moving on at the qb position. Thorne is done and we might as well try to get someone ready for the future.

I agree, it is dumb to scream for Hugh's head, but he does need to start showing he can make adjustments to the team as well as recruiting.

Watch Thorne drop back. He pumps the ball every time he throws. There's no open guy throw ball process going on in his head. It's open guy pump it then throw. He's not processing the field fast enough. The play he threw to Coleman that was picked, #5 was wide open on the other side of the field.
EDIT: it was #14 and he was wide freaking open. Didn't even get a peek from Thorne

And it’s happening every play. Scripted plays work for him early in the game. He can’t process the speed of the defense in live action.
