Both schools' leadership plans an "exciting announcement" at a joint news conference in Houston on Aug. 22 at 11 a.m.
Some people are speculating they might move the Lone Star Showdown to NRG stadium. Could you imagine the melt if that happens starting after this year?
Any of you have guesses what it could be? I’ve never seen both of schools to a joint news conference with the ADs.

I'm hearing they are joining Washington St. and Oregon St. to form a new conference called the Pac 4. News at 5.

A neutral site game agreement ain’t happening.
It’s some kind of corporate sponsor for the games, maybe conjoined with something NIL.

Heard it's either a big time sponsor for the game or some sort of Title for winning the most head to head across sports.
I've heard it's definitely not a neutral site game - that was a Texags rumor from what I heard.

I’m sure it’s just bringing back the old Lone Star Showdown. We pass it back and forth each head to head match up. Then the winner keeps it in the offseason. All sports.

We own the rights to the game? Like some company is probably paying us $2M/yr each to plaster their ads on our game promotions?

The announcement is coming from NRG stadium so people were speculating why do it there in Houston.

I feel doubtful that this will happen, but if it did, it would be a shame. Neutral site games were a mistake. They had their place, when it was the only way to get teams to play intriguing nonconference games or when college towns did not have the infrastruture to host big games all the time, but now it is lame.
College football should be played on campus.

Maybe the title sponsor is NRG.

I seriously doubt they will make it a neutral site game. NRG has less seating capacity than Kyle Field or DKR stadium. Both teams already have neutral site games and most of the alumni hate them, especially season ticket holders.
If it is true, NRG must be willing to cough up some major bucks to make it happen.
The Lone Star Showdown is the most expensive ticket out there right now.

I agree with the thought it’s just the “lonestar showdown” or whatever it’s called coming back, probably with a corporate sponsor.
Probably not going to be as big of a deal as they’re playing it up to be, just trying to generate some hype/press for the event.

It's not a neutral site thing.
Frankly, Texas would go home-and-home with OU but the Okies don't want to. They want to go Jerry World. So leaving it alone was the compromise.

it's just a joint announcement that Michael Fasusi was "recruited over"

How are you guys going to start 50 players? Put them on the kickoff team?

I thought the Red River Rivalry was played in the Cotton Bowl. Are you sure you are a UTrans grad?

I see zero reason for them to meet in Houston for this announcement if it's anything but going neutral site @NRG.
If that's the case they may want to just stay in Houston for their own safety.
