It would be truly wild if we had some big Texas or Aggie alumni/fan at the higher ups of our administration actively sabotaging us. The more I think about it, sounds like something an Aggie might do. They are cult like in their devotion and insane enough to do something like that.

I swear our football program is cursed, this is bizarre

Having “enough NIL” doesn’t even make sense as a concept. I mean damn, maybe if you got 16-0 for a decade straight and just start feeling bad for everyone.
Seems likely it’s someone who has financial interest in Saracen not getting that deal

Sounds like a political/legislative issue they’re going to have to work around rather than a university or athletics department thing

The problem is deeper than coaching and talent.

It might be best not to have financial ties for athletics tied to a gambling/sports betting business. We’d probably catch alot of grief over that. Something may be taken out of context. But that’s just my observation.

Nahhh, Let's do it. Show the world, take all the gamblers money.
We can even have money lines over attendance, Which game Jerry Jones will come home for, how many times Bobby Petrino's harlot on a harley moment will be mentioned, Hot seat references, game clock problems at WMS, etal.
I BET we screw this up...

I'm kind of 'probably better steer clear of that' myself. Too much opportunity for conflict of interests since I believe they do sports betting too. Best to avoid it altogether. Would be great to have that money though.
Curious about one thing though... why does this have to go through the capitol?

Carlton pointed out in a later post, when this got mentioned in his comments, that Saracen is already a primary advertising sponsor for Football, Basketball and Baseball so the university isn’t afraid to take their money there.

If we're too scared to play in gray areas let's just leave this program 6 ft deep and move into round ball

The nature of the promotion is probably why the university doesn't want to do it. This isn't just giving money to NIL, it's an offer to buy a ticket to the game and half the amount goes to NIL and the other half goes to charity. Why would the university want to do that?
It's not even clear who the money would go to, it says a "winner." So is the winner a current random player who gets the money or a person who buys a 50/50 ticket? Doesn't make any sense.

I’m not against taking money from them at all, but the way the ncaa treats programs like ours we could get hung out to dry over nothing. They could investigate and even when they find nothing the investigation would hamper recruiting and they’ll drag it out for years like last time.
But my concerns may be unfounded, better safe than sorry.

quote:yeah we wouldn’t want that. It might cause us to have some really bad years where we lose 8 or 9 games oh wait…
e could get hung out

I'd rather have a championship they take away later than continue to sanction ourselves

How I feel doesn’t matter, I’m just along for the ride. I say ride, it hasn’t even been a smooth walk.

In the college athletics world, sorry is 1000% better than safe

Bama would have been given the death penalty decades ago but the NCAA got real soft after the SMU decision.
The NCAA had and will continue to show favoritism with the big boys of college football. Bama is the worst offender but they had and still have enormous political clout on the level of Notre Dame.
One of the reasons nil and the portal was pushed so much is that schools around the nation couldn't keep up with Saban and Bama. We know Bama has a long history of cheating, what makes the Saban era any different? It isn't any different from the past except you have a much weaker NCAA that would look the other way. That causes the cheating to explode and that is why some of these programs not just Bama go on these historical runs.
When the cheating goes unchecked and no one to enforce the rules, somebody is going to be left behind. So just about every program in the nation was sick and tired of the Bama dominance that they said hell with it, let us get with our lawmakers within our perspective states and push nil through and so that we have a better chance to compete.
The problem with that is these Bama boosters have decades of experience getting around the rules or come up with better strategies to stay above the competition.
What did it get us? Nothing just the same BS as before with an NCAA that should be obsolete.

The NIL is the worst thing that could happen to schools like Arkansas with no governing body that can enforce the rules that can make it fair.
If the NCAA wasn't so weak then many of these programs would be given the death penalty or given probation but that would kill the golden gooses. Can't let that happen.
