Rankings vs Predicted Finish

I'm sure this is not the first time this has been brought up, but it feels more relevant today than in past years to me.
Why do people bring up schedule when talking about pre-season rankings? I'm scratching my head as to what that has to do with ranking the best teams. As the season progresses it makes sense to consider a team's resume but that is a different exercise all together.
I would say who cares but where teams begin the season actually matters. What does SECRANT have to say about this?

Media networks want to schedule early September Primetime games based on rankings. However it can create an inflated bias for everyone they play/lose to. If OU is #1 and loses to Vandy, is Vandy elite or OU overrated…theoretically speaking? It then creates a tunnel vision, see Colorado last year or Texas that one year they were top 10 and sputtered out halfway through the season (think it was the Notre dame season).
Thankfully CFP rankings are separate than the AP and it will kind of sort itself out in the end.

Maybe that's just our way of saying hello.
You need a thick skin around here especially with all of the LSU, Gump and bark like puppy dog fans here.

Skins plenty thick. But that's no welcome where I come from.
Maybe my presentation just didn't come across as interesting. I can own that if it's true.
Maybe what would be interesting, would be to do a side by side comparison of Ranking of who you would consider the best teams vs the order you think each Team will finish in the SEC this year.
I'll go first.
Preseason Ranking
1 Georgia
2 Texas
3 Alabama
4 Ole Miss
5 Oklahoma
6 Tennessee
7 LSU
8 Missouri
9 Texas A&M
10 Kentucky
11 South Carolina
12 Florida
13 Auburn
14 Mississipi State
15 Arkansas
16 Vanderbilt
Predicted Finish
1 Georgia
2 Texas
2 Ole Miss
2 Missouri
5 Alabama
5 Oklahoma
5 Tennessee
5 LSU
5 Texas A&M
10 Kentucky
10 South Carolina
12 Auburn
13 Florida
14 Auburn
15 Arkansas
16 Vanderbilt

Welcome to the Rant! Seriously, predicting who the "best teams" are is not the same question as "who will have the best record"? If you're predicting where teams will end up you have to take conferences and schedules into account. If you're just saying which teams are the most imposing or have the most talent, you don't.

It’s all hype created by anyone who can generate interest for the dollar.
And a few downvotes is doing pretty good for tRant.
Happy to see posts other than trolling so good on you.

Your topic is innocent enough, but if this bothers you, this may not be the place for you. The only way to get 100 upvotes with zero downvotes is to post a picture of your wife's a-hole, then use a VPN to create your next account.

Auburn will be improved this year and will finish higher than their preseason ranking. Not top 4 but better than 12.

Generally, we finish higher than our preseason ranking. But this year, who knows.

There are basically two kinds of pre-season rankings.
A power ranking (how good you believe the teams are in order)
and
A season prediction (basically a projection on how the games in the season will end up to give a guess at what the final ranking would be.
Either is fine, but it's important to express which each is. Group polls (like the AP or coaches poll) need to request their members to rank in one way or the other. Those get funking because some people rank in one way while others rank in another.

Don’t take it personally. I get at least 40 downvotes in all of my discussion threads, everyone thinks I’m a troll, but I know for a fact I’ve changed people’s lives for the better on here.

It's kind of a bad measure. Bama almost always finishes the same or lower in the polls. But when you start at #1 or #2 most years, there's not really room to move up.

It's not that it bothers me. Just trying to talk football. And seems like nobody knows what to make of this season with all of the change. It'll be fun to watch it shake out.

It would probably make more sense to not have preseason rankings at all, but then what would we talk about while we wait for actual football.
