What is a good comparison for Schloss to Texas?

Texas has 6 championships and 6 runner ups. This was A&M’s first ever runner up in baseball.

I briefly thought Roy Williams leaving for UNC after taking Kansas to the natty (mainly because of the way they handled reporters after a National Championship), but Kansas basketball is a more historic program than A&M baseball and not a rival of UNC.

Maybe Chris Beard to Texas, but Texas basketball doesn’t have nearly the accolades Texas baseball has.

Bob Bowman just left Arizona State who won their first ever swimming NC to go to Texas who has a great program historically. Not rivals obviously.

Sonny Dykes left SMU for TCU, but A&M baseball was far more committed to being great than SMU’s football team was based on money they were willing to spend to get better.

I honestly can’t think of a great comparison and am curious if someone here has one.

Lincoln Riley, if Riley went from Oklahoma to Oklahoma State.

I can't think of another one that compares. It's not the fact that he made the move but the manner in which it was done. He and his agent could have told Texas to contact us after the season is over and we'll talk then. This was obviously in the works behind the scenes while he was taking A&M on a national championship run.

Kalen Deboer earlier this year. They're not rivals with Alabama obviously, but he left Washington 4 days after losing the national title game. Johnny Majors left Pitt for Tennessee right after winning a national title, but he played at Tennessee so it's also not the same.

There's not a good comparison for a coach leaving in this circumstance and going to a bitter rival, much less like 12 hours after the national title game. It's pretty unprecedented

March 28, 1984

Robert Irsay moves his football team from Baltimore to Indianapolis is the middle of the night to the shock and anger of an entire city and catching the fan base completely off guard.

That’s the best I could come up with at least.

Saban to Bama if he left LSU and went straight to Bama. No going to pros first.

I mean the only reason this is a big deal is because he went to a rival. Had he been a HC at say clemson him moving on to Texas would not that big a deal. There are only a few college baseball programs you don't say no to and Texas is one of them. Was it handled the right way ? no but even had A&M matched the offer you still go to Texas.

Craig Counsell going from the Brewers to Cubs is the only comparison I can think of in any sport to this.

I don't get this part, what's the "right" way to handle it?

Paul Dietzel to Army from LSU after winning the natty in 1958? But Army wasn’t a big rival and was arguably the most prestigious coaching job at the time.

George Plantagenet to Warwick. Hopefully it turns out the same way for Schloss,

It was also immediately after he gave a big speech and was an a-hole to the media. He didn’t help himself.

I don’t know a good comparison but if Gavin Grahovac leaves for tu, it will definitely be my “Et tu Brute?” moment.

That move happened 4 years after he won a national title. He won a national title in 1958 and didn't coach at Army until 1962. There are plenty of national title winning coaches across college athletics who have left for other jobs.

Closest thing I can think of might be Saban to Bama and telling everyone to frick off, I'm not going to be the Alabama coach.
