Resume:
-2024 Champions
-Built UT up from the ashes
-3 CWS Appearances
-2 SEC Regular Season Titles
-2 SEC Tourney Titles
-3 SEC East Titles
-3 50 win seasons (about to get a 60 win)
Who else would compare? Sully & Corbin? Anyone else?

Ranked higher than the coaches that haven't won a CWS title.

You have some fading like Corbin.
I would have him 1 and Jay Johnson 2. Tony V regular season dominance pushes him past Jay Johnson.
Jay has the 3 CWS appearances, with a win and a runner up under his belt.
IF Schlossnagle wins it, I would put him at number 1

The knock on Jay is that he's inconsistent. In his short stint with Neveda he never made a regional. He also missed regionals twice at Arizona (not counting Covid obviously). He's only made it past regionals once in 3 seasons at Lsu. He's got 11 CWS wins in only 3 tries. Very high highs for sure.
Schloss is up there with DVH as best coach without a title.

Bottom tier of active coaches with a title due to the asterisk win* the other night.

Probably number 1 above Corbin at this point. Corbin is fading and he took advantage of scholarships that public schools didn’t have. Not saying it’s a bad thing but it was pretty advantageous

You left some stats out. He would be below Mike Bianco LOL:

2x College World Series appearance (2014, 2022)
SEC regular season (2009)
2× SEC Tournament (2006, 2018)

Sully
Bianco
Corbin
Johnson
Lemonis
No specific order and Vitello would be in the mix with the list above.
Then you have Van Horn and schlossnagle.
The rest.

Corbin has two titles and twenty CWS wins in 5 appearances. 20. Only Sully even comes close in that regard.

#1 if he leaves for UT
Top 5-6 if he stays at Tennessee

Bianco is one of those MLB HOFers who get there by playing 25 years and just accumulating stats. He's rarely ever the best over a long career.

Won on previous coaches talent. Has struggled 2 of the last 3 with his own.
State fans all agree he’s gone with another sub par season next year.

He’s done great, but let’s include Tony V’s low too though, since we’ve done it for everybody else.
Failed to make it out of a Home Super after one of the greatest SEC seasons of all time. And I’d agree with you, that it’s just baseball, sometimes you hit that hot team at the wrong time.
Also, where does he rank with Paul being back in the mix at SC?
HOF coach
1X NC
1X Runner Up
5X CWS appearances
4SEC titles
6 SEC tournament titles

If Vitello were to win it all, it would be in his 7th season as a HC. Here is how long it has taken the other coaches (seasons as HC before 1st CWS Championship):
Chris Lemonis - 7 seasons
Kevin O'Sullivan - 10 seasons
Jay Johnson - 11 seasons
Tim Corbin - 12 seasons
Mike Bianco - 25 seasons
Jim Schlossnagle - 23 seasons (so far) without one
Dave Van Horn - 27 seasons (so far) without one

Active Head Coaches with a NC
Sully
Corbin (2)
Johnson
O'Connor - don't think he has been listed yet
Bianco
Lemonis
Mainieri
So if anyone but Sully wins it all this year, that coach would join this group to make a Top 8.. and then you can sort them however you like.. and while Tennessee is in the drivers seat, there is still a lot of work to do..
FSU could beat them twice.. Link did it with ND and this FSU team is better than ND that year imo..

He got over the hump and it took his seat being hot to do so. I think if Ole Miss didn't push him to do something then he wouldn't have won it all that year.
Some coaches get too comfortable, content and become stagnant as years go by. Some coaches get better as the expectations get higher and some just fade away.

He still won a title regardless if those were his players or not. He didn't wait around and teased the fans for decades thinking that this was the year. He took advantage of his opportunity and gave State a title, I wouldn't complain.

If you go by what bama fans have shown earlier today in other threads, he would still rank behind Rob Vaughn by virtue of losing the series to bama.

I'd give a higher percentage chance of yall keeping Pierce than yall getting Tony V or Schloss
