Top 5 Rivalry Games In The SEC

With our brand new entrees into the SEC being official, it is only fitting that we pay homage to the best rivalries in SEC folklore. And at the same time set the record straight for the newbies and the unwashed.
Number 5, The Cocktail Party: Florida vs Georgia
Not really as great lately, and frankly, it puts BAMA and Tenn to shame when you talk about how streaky this series is and has been. I just can't give it top billing for that reason and it needed to move to a home field a long time ago. This rivalry needs some tweaking.
Number 4, I dig state fairs: Oklahoma vs The Shorthorns
It was the greatest show on turf in the B12 for a while. It has waned over the last decade and a half with the Sooners dominating. Until it proves in the SEC to be more than something we just watched from a distance, I'll give it #4 status and continue watching from a distance. I will concede that Red River was one of my all-time favorite John Wayne movies.
Number 3 for history sack: BAMA vs Tennessee
The Viles haven't kept up their end of this rivalry for too long to keep them at number 2 in the SEC. But Fulmer did everything in his power to take a respected and tough rivalry and quickly bring it to pure contentiousness and hate with the fans and team overnight. Winning 15 in a row and watching the Great Pumpkin get fired as HC and AD was hilarious. But it's just not enough. It's never enough. That's why it's still #3 on my list.
Number 2 with an Egg: Miss State vs Ole Miss
Hear me out. It won't move the needle nationally, but regionally this is another instate rivalry with hate, dirty play, in-game stupidity and even sicking the NCAA on each other. That is pure unadulterated disgust and hate. And I'm always here for it.
Number 1 with a bullet: ALABAMA vs The Barn
Just more good old-fashioned hate and the fact that it's a state rivalry makes it even more special. We are born for this. In this state, you have to declare and wear. From Punt BAMA Punt to Wrongway Bo to Kick 6 to 4th and 31, it has been and continues to be the greatest rivalry in the SEC and this here great country of ours.
Honorable mentions: Georgia vs The Barn. ALABAMA vs LSU. TAMU vs Shorthorns. LSU vs TAMU.

List sucks and it’s wrong.

The phrase you're looking for is, I disagree. Technically, I can't be wrong, it's my list.

What it needs is for one of the participants to catch up. Unfortunately, that's going to be tough because Kirby is just that damn good.

Bama vs UT isn’t a top 5 anymore. Thanks Saban.

This is correct. Bama vs LSU would fit better here, or maybe Georgia vs Auburn.

What year is it l?
If vs UT is better

Oklahoma and Texas are NOT true SEC rivalries. We should leave them out of any discussion about rivalry games. Just doesn't sound right.

Yup, both are way stronger now.

The game is big enough that I needed to do something with them. I was very close to thinking #5 until further notice. To be fair, the Shorthorns and Sooners projected as top 10 teams swayed me a little.

I'd put DSOR over WLOCP.

More importantly, it's a better rivalry than any of the ones listed.

Since 1933 -
1 DSOR
2 TSIO
3 Egg Bowl
4 WLOCP
5 Iron Bowl - sorry 40+ consecutive years of not playing gets you 5th behind the others
* it could be argued the Beer Barrel game is 5th over the IB due to its lengthy series history - and just as much hate -

Bama-Vols used to be as big a game as was played every year. Phil Phulmer did his best to put Bama out of college football. Then a funny thing happens. Tenner turns to shite and Bama can’t be beat. The rivalry is gone. LSU has taken their place.
Sorry Vols, go to the back of the line.

Auburn fans have openly rooted for Alabama in multiple national championship games. That is automatic disqualification for putting the Iron Bowl at #1.

I think you have to move up UTrans - A$M. It should me moved to June/pride month, by the way.

OU sucks on UTa's udders and does what they are told by them. Not sure how that makes a real rivalry. I guess the fanbases hate each other though so that counts for something.

I don't think even UK and VOLS fans would agree that their rivalry has as much hatred as the Iron Bowl. shite, VOLS look at UK as, what, their third or fourth biggest rival?

OU was the one who drove the train on the SEC move. Both schools' media reported this when the move was announced--OU was much more fed up with the Big 12 than UT was. Not sure where this weird, false notion that we follow them around came from, because there is literally no proof of it.
Don't really care what people who have no experience with the OU/Texas game think about it.

Egg Bowl is #1 from a pure rivalry standpoint. I see players at Bama and Auburn dapping each other up after the game.
