I'm pretty sure Texas gets the lifetime pass in the SEC.
By that logic Kentucky isn’t an SEC school and the large secessionist population in NYC would mean CUNY should get a conditional admission to the SEC.

Agree with this culturally and perhaps regionally. Texas and Florida are their own special "southern". But still, their style and fans are really a lot different than the deep south's.

Notre Dame is an academic institution that is honestly too good for the “football-only” schools of the SEC. They would be smart to take the better money and prestige of the B1G
This makes the most sense. They're either too good for the B1G or they know they'll always be perceived as special by the elite media and will always be able to make more than they could individually rather than sharing from a conference's take.
If anyone ever thinks that Bama's and Texas' fans are bad, see ND's fans. No one compares in this country.

Logic doesn't have much to do with your personal understanding of the Texas part of the Confederacy.
"Some 70,000 Texans signed up to fight for the Confederacy in more than 100 infantry, artillery, and cavalry units. Upwards of 150 Confederate officers at the rank of Colonel or above were of Texas stock, including noted generals Albert Sidney Johnston and John Bell Hood."
"Characteristically, Texans distinguished themselves across many of the Civil War's battlefields. John Bell Hood's famed Texas Brigade alone shed blood right here at the epicenter of Antietam, assaulted Devil's Den and Little Round Top at Gettysburg, rolled down to Georgia to fight in the battle of Chickamauga, and, as they so often did, found themselves in the thick of the fight at the Battle of the Wilderness."
What else have you got?

No one is questioning that Texas was part of the confederacy. I’m questioning that being a favor in them being a south eastern state or belonging in the SEC. Kentucky never was in the confederacy, and NYC had a significant pro confederacy (and by extension a very anti war) movement. If Texas is automatically get a pass does that mean Kentucky has to go and CUNY get an invite? Or does being in and supporting the confederate government not change geography?

This sounds like a Kentucky problem. Texas went southern long ago. What's your point?

That geography is a real thing and should supersede the fact that Texas is just Tennessee’s blow by.

Tell that to Davy Crockett and Jim Bowie. While the South was busy with their slave trade Texas was busy trying to run the Spanish out of the state. I see a lot of similarities

Texas borders Louisiana. Kentucky borders Ohio. It's all a matter of how you look at geography.

Who gives a shite anymore. The actual geographical logistics mean dick now.
Regionality still means a lot for the smaller sports, basically anything not named football. (I’d argue even Men’s Basketball)
Keeping travel costs down leads to the already large payouts going way further, and fields much more competitive teams in the sports nobody really cares about like the Olympic sports or softball or whatever.
Notre Dame brings a lot to the table but I don’t think they add enough eyeballs to offset the regional disruption they would cause. Besides any of that I don’t see why they would want to hitch their wagon to us over the B1G to begin with, they just seem like that type of university

Indiana feels like a southern state that prefers basketball over football I mean there is even an Auburn, Indiana with a pretty nice car museum

A different tact to point out Kentucky doesn’t belong?
What other states border Texas? The New Mexico territory was confederate, are they in?

The ONLY part of Texas that could make an argument for “southern” is SE Texas. Dallas - not remotely. Corpus? Poor man’s beach. El Paso? Might as well be part of Mexico. Amarillo? A wasteland like Oklahoma. And Austin? You could mistake it for any town in CA

There are enough primadonnas in the conference already.

you mean other than a large enough national following to garner their own TV deal?
other than a wealthy and influential alumni base?
other than proximity to a Top 3 TV market?
other than every media group on the planet drooling over them anytime they are even remotely good?

better options than the best athletic conference in the country?
did the NFL offer them or something?

I have no idea how Kentucky's status affects Texas. Do you?

But I was told that ND was a place where you simply could not recruit enough elite players to win a championship, leading to Kelly coming to LSU. It's interesting to note that the 2024 24/7 recruiting rankings have ND at 9 and LSU at 7, the 2025 ranking currently has ND at 1 and LSU at 3, still early of course. ESPN's preseason top 25 has ND at 10 and LSU at 14. None of this necessarily proves anything, but it sure looks like ND can in fact recruit elite players, maybe it was the recruiter and not the school.
As far as being in the SEC, hell no.
