I had no idea that Georgia Tech had grown to be larger than UGA

I guess I have been living under a rock. I graduated from Georgia Tech in 1989 when enrollment was about 13,000. I have always thought of GT as a small engineering school. I admit I've only stepped foot on campus about 5 or 6 times since I graduated, so haven't been there to notice the enrollment growing. I just saw a list of ACC schools in order of largest enrollment and was surprised to see GT listed as the largest school in the ACC with 47,000 students. The acceptance rate for out of state students is 12%, so they haven't decreased the standards for admission. That is also just the main campus. With those types of resources, I definitely need to expect more from our athletic department. We have no excuse for being so uncompetitive against Georgia athletically and while I'm making my dear Facebook post, why haven't we renovated our football stadium?

It's getting a lot easier to get into GT now. That's all it is.

Wiki says almost 48,000 students. That seems way off though.

The reason you had no idea is because you have no brain.
Georgia Tech's latest enrollment figures are just over 19,000, not 47,000 as Yekkies love to lie so much all the time.
Oh, you continue to live under a rock.

We need Georgia Tech in the SEC in the worst way.

Full retard.
47,000… you realize most are grad students that never set foot on campus and take 100% online. They don’t give a shite about football from a masters degree through a computer. And they already have an undergrad degree from a university where they did spend time on campus that already has their loyalty…
The rest are largely foreigners that have more passion for cricket.
The remaining small minority of US citizens on campus lived their high school lives stuffed in trashcans and have PTSD from all things football…
Q.E.D. Full retard.

That # was likely undergraduates, which was 18k as of Fall 2022.
Undergrad is the traditional # to look at.

Wtf man, you’ve only been on campus 4-5 times since graduating? All those extra people are online grad students, 99% of whom couldn’t care less about football.

Seems they've become a diploma mill, but they still have a few thousand online students to go before they rival the likes of aggy, UCF, University of Phoenix etc..

GT's own numbers
Roughly 12K undergrad with 8.8% being international students
Roughly 20K grad students with 38% being international students
The "about" section of the GT webpage states that it has more than 45,000 studying at all of its campuses combined including its European and Chinese campuses plus online.
The main campus in ATL does not have 47K students on it. Graduate students vastly outnumber undergrads.
Even taking into account all of the above, GT isn't competitive athletically because of student numbers.
