Their name still confuses me.
Phoenix is 4 hours from the Grand Canyon.
Still not as confusing as Oakland University being in Michigan tho.

It’s a Christian private college that has been successful at the online Liberty model because of laws in Arizona (ASU and Arizona have large online campuses as well)
Fun fact: Ron Polk is a graduate. Not of the online variety, he graduated in the 70s when it was like a Millsaps or Centenary type school.

It is confusing, but Oakland University is in Oakland County, MI so it makes sense assuming you have an in-depth knowledge of Michigan counties haha.

Also, the Golden Grizzles... California Gold Rush. Cal is the Bears. UCLA is the Bruins. There is a bear on the California state flag. Legit thought the Oakland Golden Grizzlies were in California.
Hate they lost tho.

Never heard anyone refer to the Grand Canyon this way.

It is a big arse hole in the ground.
Have hiked it a few times, to include once down Kiabab, over on the River Trail, and up Bright Angel in one day in the middle of August.

Arizona loves its diploma mills.

Enrollment over 100,000. They must be doing something right. They'll need a grand canyon to stuff away all the $$$ they're bringing in.

It’s not a private college it’s a for profit college. Basically a degree mill like Liberty

Isn’t there a Pittsburgh University in Kansas or something like that?

Their baseball team made the NCAAs a few years ago. I assumed they were in Flagstaff, which is strange because I am familiar with Flag and was only aware of NAU.
Nope. Originally the university was in Prescott - which is a decent ways from the Grand Canyon - then relocated to Phoenix.
It makes as much sense as a college in Atlanta being named Georgia Coastal.

Pittsburg State. Good old Sam Pittman is an alumni of that fine institution.
