Are they better than Texas???

Why not? They are a larger school than anyone in the SEC except A&M, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, A&M and Texas.

I don't know how the program has been trending more recently, but by the end of the 1991 season Texas State was a motherfricking FORCE!

If that’s the criteria, better scoop up UCF quick & lock down that Orlando market.

It's a great fit academically.

Only problem is that the majority of die-hard, loud Longhorns fans are actually Texas State alums.

Why not let FIU in as well, they're at 55,687

Been a long time lurker on this board and decided this is a good topic to talk about considering I am a graduate of TXST and A&M.
The narrative about TXST from my fellow Aggies is very off putting. 20-30 years ago you’re spot on about TXST alums being horn fans but in the last 10-12 years that has drastically changed. TXST has grown tremendously in the last decade plus that the alums in the last 10-12 years actually despises Texas especially when it comes to their baseball program.
They call our wins over Texas “meaningless” just like when A&M beats them on Tuesday nights so it was a little extra gratifying to beat them in Houston on Saturday.

not sure i buy that. culturally, Tx state will always be more in line with UT Austin thus its the primary back up plan for so many. For A&M, its always been Sam Houston state

Not saying there aren’t any Texas fans walking around campus but it’s not as many as Aggie fans claim to be. When we go and play Texas in Austin in baseball there are about as many TXST fans there than Texas fans.

Always thought texas State should be a bigger athletic force than they are. No reason they can’t be UCF or Wake Forest level - athletically

They are getting better football wise but still a long way to go.

San Marcos is a much cooler town than Austin and CS. I say Yes

$$$
I’d imagine a good chunk of their students and alumni don’t really care about their teams. They grew up fans of UT or A&M. Much like ULL/LTU/ULM and LSU

Things are really looking up for TXST football. They just had their best season since they became FBS in 2012 going 8-5 with our first bowl win. Expectations for GJ next year is really high considering we just got Jordan McCloud from JMU who is also the reigning SBC POTY. Hopefully we can push to being the top G5 school for the playoff.

We do have the resources to become force in athletics but the previous administration did not give a fuk about athletics and refused to market our teams. Our new administration is finally pushing for us to be competitive and is going the extra mile for it to happen
